Are they setting aside money? Are they working with other states on this? Are they looking at legal authority for deficit spending? Do they have specific plans for the things that will be directly affected? Do they have other ideas? Are they making a real plan? If not, that's irresponsible.

When I got there, "Polaris" was treated as the older name for the same project I joined. It did not seem like something that was cancelled and replaced by a new thing, it just looked like it had been renamed and continued. The old name remained all over the place in the codebase and configs.

With a reservation and departure control system, you just need to get one airline at a time; with a GDS, you need to get into a lot of the industry all at once or you can't compete with the established ones. While solving the technical challenges, ITA learned the industry and had to change course.

Ohh, you're talking at ITA's attempt to make a *GDS*, not an airline reservation system. Yes, they cancelled that, and decided to do a reservation system itself. It wasn't the complexity of the technical problem, it was the *business* problem of getting a new GDS into the industry successfully.

Which system is that? I was present when ITA _did_ produce a usable new airline reservation system and put it into production in 2012. Suddenly many airlines wanted it, but a year later Google (which bought ITA in 2011) cancelled it when faced with the prospect of signing the second airline.

Furthermore, I think he implies (fairly, IMO) that some centrists are _trying_ to raise the profile of this supposed issue far above what is merited by any actual problem, that they want this non-problem to be seen by others as a much bigger problem.

That's a frustrating response, avoiding the issue. There _is_ a local event, it just takes too much effort to find it. That translates into lower attendance. It means I'm less likely to go because I think it'll be small. There are a LOT MORE people who would go to an event than organize one.

What it means is that this person sees lots of talk about this issue (the "whining" you refer to), but pretty much never encounters the actual issue you're talking about. He's calling it a mountain being made out of a molehill; something people decry a lot, that doesn't come up much in practice.

I wish it were easier to _find_ all the local events. It's always tedious to click through a bunch of different places, finding them haphazardly. events.pol-rev.com always says "no results" when I type a city into the search box. /r/50501 doesn't have a stickied post with event info.

This is a rather Poe's law sort of situation :/

I've had a monthly donation to the ACLU for something like 20 years, had increased the amount in 2017 but decreased it when I was between jobs 2019-2020. So I just increased it again in November.

As disastrous as Trump is, it remains true that more people voted for him and he won the election. Leave the election denial conspiracy theories to the people trying to tear down democracy, and focus on what we can do to help democracy survive to another election, and get more voters next time.

Easy to forget because few people use them on bluesky, because the tag implementation here makes them not very usable. Vote for my feature request for better tag support? github.com/bluesky-soci...
