There's a version that supports Direct3D floating around (it was apparently bundled with a graphics card). Though I'm not sure if it just didn't work for me but I remember it looking no better but having more graphical glitches.

Outside games, though, GT's influence is remarkable. There's a generation of cars immortalised partly by being in the games, it was on Top Gear in the mid 00s, and there's the GT Academy/esports and collaborations with IRL manufacturers.

It certainly inspired almost every publisher to take a shot at a sim-style racing game with... mixed results, though I think design-wise it reflects the trends of the time. The first two GTs are 90s collectathons while 4-6 have a post-open world maximalist design (peaking with driving on the moon).

Interesting stuff. Maybe because I played it first, I've always had a soft spot for RRV but I can see how one person's slick can be another's soulless. It's also amazing how pervasive Gran Turismo's influence is, both in upending the racing genre and changing how we think about cars and games.

The fact that the rankings can change (RRV has gone from 23rd to 1st in just this morning, rightly) so the write ups can't express any opinion is so lame. What a horrid idea for a feature.

Then starting on Sunday 22nd June, a full summer of Radical action! These cars are light and grippy but also fast, so you'll need to have your wits about you!

Also I'm wandering around as a bard called Yerdas Selzavon (Yer Da Sells Avon), which is occasionally accidentally hilarious.

I'm used to being a second class citizen with IndyCar coverage but it does feel like it's got worse with the change from NBC to Fox this season. The feed dropping into complete silence every time the US coverage was on ad breaks was a poor show as well, especially with how many there were.

Damn that's nice. What's the circular thing on the top right of the face?

Reminds me of that clip of Ronnie O'Sullivan trying to lean on a table that isn't there in VR. youtu.be/OMceVbo3Tm4?...

Haha, I have a friend who's been waiting for the opportunity to guide me through the early game (he'll be sick of me when it's clear just how much guidance I need) then the world is my oyster?
