We always buy a piece of gammon to have on Christmas Eve which lasts for days on end for sandwiches etc. Nothing ever gets wasted but I like the sound of using it in your vol au vent filling. Might try some as part of my New Year’s Eve bitty tea

Sounds lovely. We often used to fill ours with M&S tinned chunky chicken but I’m sure a homemade version would be nicer and possibly cheaper. They’re like a mouthful of chicken pie. What’s not to like?

I wasn’t aware that there was a free museum in the RCPE. I’d have popped in for a look had I realised the other week. Think the only time I’ve ever been inside was for a free dinner they hosted for us as final year medical students. Notoriously boozy evening!

Many of my male relatives were miners at some point.
Soap with PHB embossed on it loomed very large in my childhood!
It gets really hot underground and miners often stripped off to the waist when working. You can easily understand how the baths transformed both their lives and that of their wives.
