You know I love a good Venn Diagram. Been seeing this one around lately. Seems to sum up the times.

The news won’t report on it, and the opposition won’t talk about it, but OVERT, OPEN white supremacy and neo-Nazism are the ideologies guiding the White House right. They’re not disguising it in policy, and they’re not hiding their interactions with Nazis and white supremacists.

I know it all seems overwhelming, but not paying attention right now just *cannot* be an option. Please share widely. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/musk-...

“But her emails!”

i think this should be factored into how states, counties, localities and hospitals respond to these executive orders. "we will investigate you if you teach DEI." okay, with what agents, specifically? with what state capacity?

It’s important to keep in mind that though the administration is deliberately and gleefully evil, some of the bad things they will do will be out of stubborn ignorance and indifference to how things work

Bleak abdication of constitutional duties and powers. They claim to want to destroy the administrative state, but don't err in believing they planned to actually replace it with something statutory, or anything at all (besides their own corrupted unaccountable version)

The freezing of federal grants, the firing of all inspector generals, the immunization of political violence - does everybody not see what’s happening? In a blitzkrieg, Trump is trying to collapse our democracy - and probably our economy - and seize control. Call it what it is.

Even when they back down a bit from their most extreme policies, the softened versions will often be moving the Overton Window towards fascism. They don't need to win every fight if the direction remains in their favor, and it remains in their favor every time we normalize what they're doing.

I use read my new favorite analogy of the 85th percentile rule: "It's like setting a curfew based on when a teenager comes home."

After *three years* of negotiations, Alderman Brian Hopkins has killed the 500 home development proposed at North and LaSalle in Old Town. The project would have included 💯 affordable homes in one of Chicago’s most expensive neighborhoods. Wondering why we have a housing crisis? Look no further.

This seems extremely bad.

I'm so uninterested in these attempts to understand some (fundamentally unknowable) inner motivation. If you do racist acts ironically you are still acting racist. If you fuck a goat ironically you're still a goat-fucker. Don't piss on my face and tell me it's raining.

I for one would welcome more neighbors. Chicago should be working to make it affordable for residents to stay and easy for new ones to arrive. This decision, and others like it, are what keep us on the path to stagnation and fiscal decline. We can and should do better.

They told us exactly what they wanted to do ... And now they're doing it.

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.

The story behind RFK Jr. in Samoa's measles crisis has never been reported. He wasn't there to spread misinformation about vaccines (though he did). He wanted to study a "natural experiment" of unvaccinated kids. “I can’t imagine anything less ethical or more cruel.” www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

trying to strip Native people of their birthright citizenship is a *litmus test* for all of YOU. the regime is testing how far you’ll go when it comes to standing beside Natives for more immediate things. have you looked into Project 2025’s agenda to privatize and sell off National Forest lands?

"considerable flak" = "people accurately noted that these guys are segregationists and biological racists"

lol they're going to kill FEMA.

short thread of how point access blocks can facilitate more family sized homes 1. optimize the number of homes per floor (max of 4 in seattle) with all units having a corner aspect (windows on 2 adjacent wides)

Is he a Nazi or just a contrarian? Doesn’t matter. Is he a Nazi or just trolling? Irrelevant. Is he a Nazi or just hungry for power? Makes no difference. Is he a Nazi or just negatively polarized? Who cares. If you fuck a goat ironically, you’re still a goat-fucker.

Genuinely did not see this coming. This is evil. It is also not one of the goals outlined in Project 2025, although expanding resource extraction on Native lands is. (Biden stopped that, citing climate change.)

The antidote for despair is action ❤️ * Dial (202) 224-3121 * Enter zip code * Leave voicemail * Say “My name is ___, I’m a constituent in [town]. (If clinician/scientist, say so) “The NIH freeze harms research and patients and must be lifted immediately.” Be brief. Staffers tally all calls. Go! ✅

How can we reconcile the tension between wanting to limit the impact car-brained NIMBYs have on bike lane or housing development and wanting to make sure the community has a say over fossil fuel infrastructure expansion? Easy— leaders should simply listen to the people who are correct

The block by block land use fights because of discretionary permitting systems in American cities is wild and needs to be reformed.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance. Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

Paris doubled its cycling rate in a single year (2022 -2023) by sustained and increased investment in infrastructure (read: political will). NYC will likely have a new mayor at this time next year. Which one has the guts to articulate and deliver a similar outcome? momentummag.com/paris-cyclin...

Frequency is everything. Frequency has to be a priority. We can do so much better.

There is a widespread sickness in American punditry where commentators cannot describe basic political realities because it sounds partisan, so they mischaracterize the positions of Democrats and Republicans to avoid appearing like they are taking a stand.

our crosswalk monitor quit after - despite wearing bright clothes and a yellow vest - nearly being hit multiple times, along with several children... including by a dump truck w/ transfer. all because SDOT refuses to prioritize safe routes and traffic calming near schools.
