This is what leadership sounds like. Students will study this speech someday…if we’re lucky. These are not normal times, and they don’t call for normal measures.

I’ve welcomed many of these words as they helped me describe a lifetime of real experiences, but also, many are words everyone uses in everyday ways. Silence does not equal peace. Sometimes silence begets violence. I will keep speaking the truth and using all the words I need to do so.

Love these rhetorical questions. We know the answers. The devil will be in the details.

A few people have shared this here today, so I thought I’d post it.

“70% of the oxygen we breathe comes from marine organisms living in the ocean.” Today, we celebrate United Nations #WorldWildlifeDay to recognize the unique roles and contributions that native plants and wild animals have on people and the planet. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean

March through October, Florida beaches transform into a vital nesting ground for thousands of sea turtles. As nesting season begins, we are preparing to monitor nests and keep them safe. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #SeaTurtles #Nesting

This:

“Crucially, Salem argues that this sort of humanitarian assistance should be in keeping with Trump-Musk’s stated objectives. She notes that feeding the hungry abroad bolsters national security at home and discourages migration to the United States.”

#BlackHistoryMonth Isaac Woodard survived WWII only to return to America from Asia and become disabled due to police violence in the South. He was beaten and blinded by police. His case made #BlackHistory and led to the desegregation of the federal government and military. #BlackSky #DisabilitySky

UAF researchers say that during many of Alaska’s large wildfire seasons, there was an early snow melt.

Ella Baker AKA Fundi (Swahili for teacher) founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to organize young sit-in leaders who weren’t prominent at the time for direct action & voter registration. They coordinated the Freedom Rides of 1961 with CORE (Congress of Racial Equality).

Go ahead. Let the people see you for what you are.

This is the next ask on your next call to your Senators. Do it tomorrow.

Hmmm, debating whether to call this shameful or shameless…both, I guess.

Publicly informing people of their rights under federal law and the Constitution is not “impedement” (which is also not a word). Ordering the investigation of a duly elected congress member for informing the public of facts is intimidation. We have 3 branches of gov’t, not 1 to rule them all.

I keep thinking of Madeleine L’Engle’s book, A Wrinkle in Time, & planet Camazotz, where the authoritarian brain, IT, controls everyone’s thoughts. IT tortures a boy who dares bounce a ball out of rhythm wi the other kids. Here, it’s all to distract us while “IT” sneaks in back & robs us all blind

“A source told CNN they believe these individuals were fired because ‘no one has taken any time to understand what we do and the importance of our work to the nation’s national security.’” - @cnn.com Me? Pondering all the frogs swimming in the pot calling out, “Jump in, the water’s fine!”

Tribal Organizations Say Trump’s Mass Layoffs Have Life-or-Death Consequences. Opposition mounts to the layoff of thousands of workers in health, education and other key tribal programs and agencies. ictnews.org/news/life-or...

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

#booksky What a wonderful honor! 🥹🙏🏼

Hey #Booksky , here’s the prestigious 2025 list my novel, Candlelight Bridge, landed on. So excited it’s now a Pick in Fiction among the Southwest Books of the Year!

I think it's worth repeating plainly that a federal judge halted Musk's federal funding freeze nearly two weeks ago but funds are still very much being frozen in violation of the court order.

I highly recommend checking out A Bridge Home, now a 2025 Southwest Book of the Year. Big congrats to the talented novelist, @mafbooks.bsky.social! #booksky

Can we expect lawmakers to risk death when it won’t change the outcome? “the Trump Maga machine is powerful. They are aggressive. They are nasty. They issue death threats…& they have really gotten under the skin of a lot of Republicans.”-Sen Kirsten Gillibrand (D, NY) www.wnyc.org/story/call-y...

🚨 Tonight, Musk uses his taxpayer-funded fortune to push fascist propaganda during the #SuperBowl—while he and Trump let 500K+ tons of U.S. food aid rot at ports. $450M wasted as global hunger rises—a preventable catastrophe that also hurts US farmers. 1nadinesmith.substack.com/p/super-bowl...

Not only is this beautiful - it also calms me to ponder how infinitesimal we are in the big picture. Seeing my problems virtually vanish against the scale of the universe, I smile at the opportunity to play a tiny part in it all, & to humbly recall that all we really have is this earth & each other.

Elon—the richest man on Earth—is gutting the world’s largest provider of food aid. He could end world hunger single-handedly and still be the richest man alive. But he won’t. Instead, he spent 40 million on Super Bowl ads attacking USAID! Stand with USAID: share this counter-ad…

These are the people who monitor and publish Lake Superior's conditions every day. Minnesotans along the North Shore rely on NOAA to know whether or not it’s safe to go out on the water. These agencies and their staff do real work that keeps us safe, it just goes unnoticed - until they’re gone.

Eugene Jacques Bullard was the 1st Black American military pilot & only Black American pilot to fly during WWI. Due to racism, he flew for France & never flew for the US. He was famous in France for his valor & known as "The Black Swallow of Death." airandspace.si.edu/stories/edit...
