This is the tenderness of God: tireless in forgiving and tireless in loving —St Oscar Romero, 4th Sunday of Lent (C), 1980 #StOscarRomero

Some people think that my preaching is political and provokes violence... They forget that the voice of the Church is not inventing the evils that exist in the world; it is simply shedding light on them —St Oscar Romero, 4th Sunday of Lent (C), 1980 #StOscarRomero

Without being aware of it, we have become individually polarised, bound to a pole of fixed ideas, incapable of reconciliation, filled with mortal hatred. This is not the reality God wants —St Oscar Romero, 4th Sunday of Lent (C), 1980 #StOscarRomero

If only we could see Christ in the needy, in the tortured, in the prisoner, in the murder victim... we would gather that precious treasure with tenderness; we would kiss them and never be ashamed of them —St Oscar Romero, 4th Sunday of Lent (C), 1980 #StOscarRomero

This Monday, I introduced a policy to explore every angles to stop this rise of fascism—educate residents, challenge roadblocks, and sue when needed. We have limited power, so please come comment to show the city this matters and should be a priority! www.cambridgema.gov/Departments/...

Was excited to talk tonight to the NY Catholic worker to kick off this weekend’s conference at @ManhattanEdu on #dorothyday and the #jubilee year.

Great start to our #DorothDay symposium at Manhattan University Thanks @robertellsberg.bsky.social for kicking us off this morning !

Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace Tom Cordaro writes: "[Today] when White Christian Nationalism has become synonymous with Christianity in the US, we need to act with the urgency of Niemöller, Barth, and Bonhoeffer ... 'Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. ... Not to act is to act.'"

Taxpayers can feed 11,000 people for a YEAR for $3 million, the cost of one golf trip for one old man, a senile White House resident.

This is a project that I've long wanted to complete: a new online edition of Cardijn's classic 1930 "Manuel de la JOC" or "YCW Manual." Here it is, just in time for the centenary of the movement. A document to read, meditate and study! Chrome browser will translate it. manuel1930.josephcardijn.com

At 6.26pm on 24 March 1980, Archbishop Romero was assassinated whilst celebrating Mass in the small hospital chapel where he lived. The Mass was being recorded.

Today is the feast day of St Oscar Romero Check out our classic episode about his murder. open.spotify.com/episode/3wec...

🙏 Saint Oscar Romero was shot on this day in 1980. His commitment to speaking out for poor and marginalised communities in El Salvador ultimately resulted in his assassination. We are immensely proud that he was a friend and partner of ours.

Assassinated by El Salvador’s military dictatorship 45 years ago in 1980, Óscar Romero remains an icon of the country’s working class.

"No one has to obey an immoral law. I beg you, I order you in the name of God: stop the repression." — Archbishop Óscar Romero, El Salvador, in appeal to police and National Guard Next day (#tdih 1980) Romero was assassinated 💔 by U.S.-backed death squads. ⬇️ www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/ro...

Happy Monday! Today thr church remembers St. Oscar Romero, and the martyrs of El Salvador. Morning Prayer: Psalm 80 Evening Prayer: Psalm 77, 79 Office readings: Jeremiah 7:1-15 Romans 4:1-12 John 7:14-36 St. Oscar, pray for the political prisoners held in El Salvador.

"The rich must be critical amid their own surroundings of affluence: why they are wealthy and why next door there are so many poor. A wealthy Christian will find there the beginning of conversion, in a personal questioning: why am I rich and all around me so many that hunger?" St. Oscar Romero

This beautiful mural of Saint Oscar Romero was created by Rolando Lujan. May God bless him for his beautiful and prophetic work!

St Oscar Romero, Archbishop and martyr, was killed on this day 45 years ago. My reflection in @giveusthisdaylp.bsky.social

Saint Oscar Romero. Please help us to be like you.

Congar described the creation of the YCW as: “One of the most emblematic events of our time, in which we find a prophetic initiative from the periphery... leading to the consecration of his new movement by the Pope, who was himself also animated with a prophetic spirit.”

Jawdropping. You would expect this in a dictatorship, not the United States. This country is unrecognizable.

"The reality became clear: Ice detention isn’t just a bureaucratic nightmare. It’s a business. These facilities are privately owned and run for profit. Companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group receive government funding based on the number of people they detain..."
