I just spent the last three weeks binging the first two seasons of Yellowjackets, and BOOOOOY HOWDY do I have a lot of feelings about it.

A spot illustration for that last blog post veronicaguzzardi.com/whats-the-po...:

WHO COULD POSSIBLY HAVE GUESSED

Our Costco just switched their oatmilk three pack from Silk to Oatly. It’s more expensive, and it’s not as good 😕

I don’t know why I torture myself by doing something with scales while I’m still learning (or in this case re-learning) my tools, but here we are…

We left for Japan two days after the fires started, and I'm wondering if some of my grief was delayed, because now when I see videos of the cleanup, recovering tiles form Altadena fireplaces, flooding in Malibu, I feel that quake of pain deep in my chest. Hi neighbors. I'm with you.

I hate it when I sot down to draw and realize I’ve never seen anything before and have no idea what anything looks like. #ReferencesAreImportant

I am no longer accepting the argument "there are bigger problems than this!" unless you are personally working to stop the ultimate Heat Death of the Universe.

Today I found my oven thermometer from the old place and learned that my oven in the new place runs LIKE 50 DEGREES HOTTER than the knob suggests 😵‍💫

The 2025 Superb Owl.

I just did something really hard that was good for me, and possibly no one else, it might even cause problems. People might say bad things about me. But I did it because I needed to do it.

The Superb Owl is almost here! Watch this space

Is it just me or is it impossible to get Chrome to reload a cached site without clearing cached data from EVERY site? Is there a trick I don’t know? Help a girl out, internet.

Who could have guessed that in the year of our Lord 2025 I was going to open up Dreamweaver and actually find it to be a useful piece of software for hand-coding a website? Also, which other pre-Y2K nerds feel like linktree services are dumb when you can just hand-code your own? Just me? Cool.

Easy Carve + Woodzilla press = major potential for overdoing the print. I am loving getting back into relief printing, though!

I was just looking at a photo of a camel and it struck me that sometimes an animal looks exactly as strange as its skeleton suggests. This has implications for paleo art.

I have decided that this year, I get to draw for an hour after any and all meetings. I need quiet time to decompress after being "on," no matter what kind of meeting it is. I always want to and I always resist. I want to see what happens if I let myself do it.

What's the weirdest thing you've said to end a Zoom call? I'll start: "okay, the dog is licking my printer, which probably means she needs a walk. I've gotta go."

I do think it’s important.

Wnet to an Ani Difranco show last night and almost got in one fight, and then was one person away from another. The Vibe is weird in LA right now.

Many Japanese Americans are recoiling from Trump's immigration crackdown. “This brings back all kinds of memories, even tears,” said one 91-year-old Berkeley resident. “You don’t think I’d remember much, but it’s amazing how much I do.” www.kqed.org/news/1202191... via @kqednews.bsky.social

I know the names of our dog friends at the park better than their people, and when I ask, I mangle the syntax so badly that is comes out “whose dog is he?” when I actually mean “which dog is his?” But now “whose dog is he?” is a thing, so I don’t try to correct myself anymore.

I left Japan with 260円 on my Suica card. Just gonna have to go back, I guess.

I keep an informal little equation in my head at all times: irony-poisoned → low trust → fascism I don’t care if it’s cringe. You have to believe in things, earnestly, to acknowledge that progress is happening and better things yet remain. Your “lol, lmao” at every little thing is death.

15 years after Citizens United, which transformed every corporate treasury in America into a potential political slush fund, we now see the result: government of billionaires, by oligarchs, for plutocrats.

I’m not NOT paying attention. But I do need to keep doing my job, even if that job looks frivolous. Joy never, ever is.

I don’t know if I can do another four years of waking up every day and saying “oh god, what now?” I mean, I will wake up every day. But I might just need to disengage with the news a bit.

if you're an artist / art worker living in los angeles that has been impacted by the recent fires, applications for the LA arts community fire relief fund just went live. up to 10k in unrestricted funds (w/ proof of full time residency required); apps open until 2/18: www.cciarts.org/relief.html

Thank you, Canada 🇨🇦

And just like that, I remember the word 飛行機 I never knew the kanji; Google Translate supplied that.)

We’re safe, but the air quality is so bad I can’t really breathe without needing to cough. Not supposed to use my inhaler more than 4 times in a day, which is super fun. So many people have it so much worse. Every wheezing breath is a prayer for my neighbors.
