I am no longer accepting the argument "there are bigger problems than this!" unless you are personally working to stop the ultimate Heat Death of the Universe.

Well, it's just a meditation, but not 𝘵𝘩𝘦 Big Bang, more like a universe consisting of many Big Bangs that play out their cycle, much like new stars are formed out of the nebulae of previously exploded stars. And certainly no endless loop of identically replayed existence is implied, more like

Honestly, till Canada signed today's deal with Ecuador for oranges, I was concerned with the vitamin C levels of Canadians boycotting American produce. We do not need a scurvy comeback. But now I agree with you, the *gestures down south* and heat death thing are now more pressing.
I've heard Canada has universal healthcare; maybe the physicians could prescribe supplements like they do vitamin D for folks in northern regions of the US. One can also purchase vitamin C at the local market.
That's not the "least of our worries," 25% tariffs on Canadian steel, Aluminum, the threat of 25 % tariffs on everything else (reprieve for a month), seriously wanting to annex Canada and collapse the Canadian economy come to mind.
He’s hurting us too with his stupid tariffs and turning every ally against us, I secretly think he’s trying to start a war, he promised Putin something and I know it’s not good and then we got muskitler, we need him gone
I got yummy oranges from Egypt 🇪🇬 and they are so much tastier than Florida. I will never spend another cent from anything in the US, ever! Much rather go without if I can’t find it elsewhere.
Start learning Andromedan Pigman Interspecies Binary Trade Language now. Their pickup lines are complicated, filthy, and – trust me, when you see the Andromedan Pigmen, you'll realize this for yourself – incredibly handy.
Actually, as we all transform energy into infrared (body heat) 24/7 every day of our lives, aren't we helping the universe toward its ultimate destiny?
An executive order to bring plastic straws back just shows how much FOTUS cares about the #environment. Only himself. He is a black hole of humanity. Absence.
Heat death is cold, it's atrophy when everything is so far apart from everything else it just fading out from perpetual cooling and slowing. But if black holes compress matter until ultimately re-popping it will just be a cycle not death...
I’m doing that by jogging in place and trying to contribute by sheer caloric output. Just not sure I can keep it up for more than 1 million or two years.
You'll never convince all the people to take personal responsibility, but a government that forces it is THE definition of tyranny. Be responsible. Stop buying cheap shit made in unregulated China and India. It's THEIR plastics and waste in OUR waters
I don't think most people who say that are suggesting we drop other issues but more that we get our issues in a row. You can't make a burger if you don't have any groceries and you can't buy groceries without any money. Saying "let's make a burger" before doing those other steps gets you nowhere.
I agree with this sentiment. Using the argument "There are bigger problems than this" is ONLY valid IF you ALSO work on solving that bigger problem AND solving the other problem stands in the way of solving the bigger one.
The heat death of the universe may finally represent a time when all humans will be treated equally and billionaires (please adjust for inflation) may actually care about the 'environment'
Look, I’m doing my best to accelerate it but the Ethics Committee are still being obstinate
But the rate at which the water is rising in the cellar I have them chained up in means that their obstinacy won’t last much longer and then Operation Infinite Candles can commence.
Been working on that one with the boys down in the lab. We have a decent anti entropy engine. Slows and even reverses dark matter related universal expansion. Problem being is the quark matter it runs on.
Its effective sure, but it's costing like $9 billion a minute to run
🍊mush are a lethal, toxic, homicidal combination on & 4 "the world."
No worries though, bc the New World Order, these mofos want 2 galvanize won't last long.... bc they'll blow 💩 it up in a nuclear war, if the climate don't kill us all 1st.
Didn’t expect any response to this 😃
From my time at MIT 5.60 Intro to Thermodynamics (c. 1976) where my Freshman advisor called me into his office and said the TA reached out to him to tell me I was first in the class…At The Wrong End!🤣
Heat Death is so far into the future that humans will never be around to see it anyway. Highly unlikely that humans survive long enough for the M31 flyby / merger, and that's in a blink compared to the heat death timeframe.
All the more reason to scrutinize every single contract issued by US A.I.D. No corrupt, racist, bigoted, homophobic contract is too small to investigate!
The Earth is experiencing climate change, the Russians have been committing war crimes in an innocent country for three years, and leaders in Israel are working towards genocide. All this and now we have Trump. We should keep a disaster bingo card because that's where we are going.
I am combating entropy by ensuring these letters are in perfect order. One day I will have ordered every letter. Please do not reply in words it only adds to my workload.
James Comer’s literal job as Chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee is to investigate government inefficiency, waste, fraud, and abuse. Instead, he's praising a Nazi, Elon Musk—for doing the job he was elected to do. He’s a craven lickspittle and utter failure at his job.
I tried telling my son that in the driveway this morning as we were having a heated discussion. He said I have more important things to think about. I said no, you don’t.
I would take them in order for how soon the issue will reach us. Starting with close, the death of democracy, the society, the civilization, the humans, the earth, the sun, and trillions of years later the Universe. After the sun is gone there will be plenty of time to work on fixing the Universe.
We have more immediate problems. The heat death of the universe is 10^106 years from now. Personally, I'm working on stopping the sun from destroying the earth, which will likely happen in only 5 billion years
So what’s your plan? Maybe we can drag Jupiter over for a fresh infusion of hydrogen to delay red giant expansion phase? 🤔 But then Earth’s orbit might get tugged into the sun without the Jovian counterweight.
Gee, sounds risky.
I was just planning on starting a foundation to study the problem, raising a lot of money, and paying myself an insanely high salary.
I do an evil ritual each morning that transmutes a deadly poison into a Potion of Wakening, while simultaneously hastening Heat Death.
Sorry everyone.
I could sleep more instead, but that's crazy talk.
I think we have more immediate problems. The sun is running out of hydrogen causing it to expand. Soon all of earths oceans will be vaporized and it could be 1000 degrees hotter outside. We only have 5-6 billion years to find a new home
Here I was, scratching my head, "I know there's a 'The Last Question' reference/joke to be made here... how do I do it?" And then, BAM, I see a perfectly-executed one, sublime in its elegance. Bravo, sir.
The "expansion" is just square of the distance rules, only in the 4th or a higher dimension. The supposed diffusion ignores the simple fact that all that spacetime when it got going was unevenly filled, so some runs slower than other bits and gravity is the attempt at normalization between such.
Gravity won't stop, density of matter will stop. There will still be heat, you just won't be able to tell anyone about it because by then you will have evolved back to a lower energy life form and speech will be impractical. Not enough air pressure. In a black hole you can walk back to Monday.
The good news: DR Who re-runs are no longer available. The Other Good News: You can't be compared to the physiology of a Kaled Mutant, if there are no DR Who re-runs available.
Well. I'm more concerned with the Heat Death global warming will bring to planet Earth in the next hundred years than the fate of the universe eons from now. But having read your book, at least I have a vague notion of what you're talking about. Pretty vague, though - I might have to read it again.
The great thing about having a lot of people is we can all solve different problems together. If we all focused on everything, we'd have no energy to solve anything. And honestly, it feels like that argument only helps to maintain the status quo, not help push positive momentum.
The best I can assume is that some people are genuinely trying to prioritize. It can be overwhelming to take on too many tasks at once or just overload the mind with a bunch of problems. Even then, there are better ways to say it.
Absolutely
It started with trump tearing up the trade treaty with Mexico and Canada when he was elected the first time
no one thought it important
but when he tore up the missile treaty with Russia and Russia amazingly produced those kind of missile and pointed them at Western Europe
silence from D
I could be unpacking a stellar can of worms with this comment, but as my autistic masking has 100% fractured, I find myself thinking outside the corrugated universe often.
That in mind, I was under the impression that the expanding universe would cause a deep freeze death?
I am preventing cosmic expansion from ripping apart your sub atomic particles. You need proof? Well, I don't see space-time ripping apart any particles since I arrived, so there you go!

But you don't really forget panic attacks that wake you up at 3 AM.

And for the meat eaters, there's raw lung. Probably the densest source of vitamin C. As do other organ meats. But only raw...
I just like being a smartass.
Rosehips have more vit c than oranges.
You just have to know how to recognise them, and how to prep them.
(They're everywhere here, including in cities, not sure about there.)
Rosehips got Britain through WW2.
And then I’m reminded that it’s the truth. 🥺😭
So basically you're welcome.

AFAIK most solar systems inside both galaxies will not be affected internally, only the view outside changes a bit.
Mark Twain
(Not really, people)
They had their funding cut last week.
this probably doesn’t count, it’s more of a hobby, right?
now i wanna read the Last Question again
I rather not get boiled to death by oxygen.
There no bigger problems right now
The world has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel
I mean...it's cold., so I feel less heat, right?
I say eating ice cream counts. I'm on it.
Or maybe Obama's.
Or DEI?
Then off to the bank to deposit my 1€, so the compound interest will pay for it.
But the rate at which the water is rising in the cellar I have them chained up in means that their obstinacy won’t last much longer and then Operation Infinite Candles can commence.

Will keep working

1. You can’t win
2. You can’t break even
3. You can’t get out of the game

He won’t live long enough to see anything he’s causing today, so fuck it, burn it all down.
After we all fade into an orange turd coma, the last calories of warmth and joy will trickle away and the universe will freeze it's black holes off.
The universe?
I'm not sure how we can do anything about the sun.
or other stars..
Even if the milky way was destined for a heat death that we could change, we can't be sure it would impact other universal systems positively.
Let's focus on our own actions.
I’m still working to stop the penultimate Heat Death of the Universe.
The one after that will just have to wait its turn!
I think it's on track to get there much faster.
All (bad) joking aside, it will take these “smaller” problems impacting everyone before they wake up and realize what’s going on.
can't get here soon enough
I was just planning on starting a foundation to study the problem, raising a lot of money, and paying myself an insanely high salary.
It isn't looking great right now.
Sorry everyone.
I could sleep more instead, but that's crazy talk.
We only have 1 measly billion years til the oceans boil off - so macroscopic life on Earth is already about 50% done-zo 🪦
no. probably not.
nevermind
Green Lantern, specifically.
