Suddenly, out of nowhere, a declassified World War II-era CIA guide to sabotaging fascism in the workplace has become one of the most popular free ebooks on the internet: www.404media.co/declassified...

It's been 11 days since I've unclenched my teeth. It's been 30 days since my household was healthy. It's been 84 years since I started writing this paper.

Keep sharing your JOY ✨ Keep celebrating your PhD defenses, job offers, and awards! Keep telling us ALL the good things. Joy & Hope are what keep us going when things look bleak. They are also forms of resistance.

As a Sociologist who has studied families and schools for nearly two decades, there are many things I want to say (or yell) about the new EO on Education. But for now I'll just say--if you want to achieve the (longstanding GOP) goal of privatizing public schooling, this is a great place to start. 1/

I had no hail-mary requests for grade bumps this fall, and I just would like to thank the gods for that. A lovely way to end the fall term!

I am seeking a coauthor who wants to write about jokes in preschool classrooms. Must: love Spencer Cahill's work and have a symbolic interactionist sensibility. Preferred: a qualitatively-included graduate student seeking coauthorship opportunities. I'm not joking!!!!!

ok WOW Rev.com pricing for transcription went up! It used to be $1.25 per minute and is now $2 a minute. Does anyone know why? And any suggestions for alternatives?

What books did you read in high school that stuck with you, and why? No one reads books in hs anymore! www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc... so we're remembering what books did to our teenage selves. If you have one, send us a voice memo: [email protected]

My workplace just basically banned departments from making public statements, UNLESS they follow a highly articulated process. I have a lot of thoughts***, including that the policy prescribes an unusual amount of collective action for a place with no shared governance.

It’s the third and last day of the coziest writing retreat in Vermont. I’m so fortunate to be here with colleagues-turned-friends ❄️

But…then how does Quebec punish parents for daring to have a baby??

My nervous, gobsmacked laugh yesterday when folks mentioned that the infant ratio in public child care is 2:1. 😅

I wrote about how the Milwaukee Art Museum received an anonymous gift of $3.54 million that will fund admission for kids 12 and under in perpetuity: www.artnews.com/art-news/new...

My bus home to Concord has heat 🙌🏽

Burlington VT is so cute. The vibes have no relation to the coat factory though…

barred from interstate fucking travel. anyone with a uterus is a second class citizen in potentia

Spotify Wrapped feels like a mirror for our narcissism. They know we love learning things about ourselves. It’s genius, really: make people feel special for having the most generic habits imaginable. Wrapped is a data-driven ego boost for a society desperate to feel unique.

We’re stopped in Burlington and this lady is pacing the aisle of the bus spraying Axe body spray everywhere. Is she a retired middle school teacher?? and now half the passengers are coughing so that’s great.

damn Lord Denethor was unhinged

I do not donate to my employer because we are already in a labor for compensation relationship. I'm very confused by these emails.

Watching the extended edition of Return of the King is warming me up on this cold bus. At least I’m not approaching the fires of Mordor…

HDFS @ Purdue is hiring a research professor (assistant/associate level) focused on early childhood education. This position is a non-tenure, but promotable, track. View the ad and submit your materials at: careers.purdue.edu/job/Professo.... We will begin reviewing applications after January 2nd.

this is how I feel about cooking, laundry, etc.

I’m on an icy cold Greyhound bus from Concord to Montreal. Tomorrow, I’m excited to get to talk about False Starts with folks at McGill. I hadn’t been to Montreal since 2017 and now I get to go twice within 6 months. ✌️

HOLDING IT TOGETHER made the @npr.org Books We Love list! It's tagged as a staff pick, a book club idea, and an eye-opening read. As Erica Liao wrote: "Some of the interviews may ruin your day with how angry they make you... [but there's] also a healthy dose of hope." apps.npr.org/best-books/#...

Amari has mostly adapted to NH, but he had a recent complaint. He used to love walking to a corner store that gave free healthy snacks to kids. He said, "in Denver we could walk to get yogurt parfaits, but here we have to make them ourselves." We DID make some Ina Garten quality shit though....

Resilience. Vulnerability. Protest. Joy. No, it’s not the holidays with your family—it’s the Fall 2024 issue of Contexts Magazine @contextsmag! Free to read now through Dec. 15! https://buff.ly/3YZ5eQ6

Preparing to make pies. Feeling grateful. Feeling glad this quarter is OVER!! The students were great, but the work-family conflict was not.

Saying hi to this new site by sharing my last ASR pub, w amazing colab @imarinescu.bsky.social! We show that privatized childcare services play a direct role creating family income inequality in the US, bc unaffordable childcare hurts lower income families most doi.org/10.1177/0003...

What is @asanews.bsky.social doing? I would love to hear from the staff, current leaders, and candidates for council what they've been doing, and what their strategy is moving forward.

parenting is so hardcore. So I’m supposed to manage the medical, educational, emotional, and physical wellbeing of three kids, huh?🤯

I found a way to make cold foam for my iced coffee. It feels on brand for me to master something that was the hot thing to do like 6 years ago.

Halley Potter and I coauthored a new report about mixed-income child care centers. These programs do the tough work of combining funding streams. Check it out here! @tcfdotorg.bsky.social tcf.org/content/repo...

On my way to school pickup and just saw a man holding an assault rifle. Getting his car towed. Very disturbing.
