creative writing (not much time for that right now!), activism, and my commitment to my education. I've just learned that the episode was made available to listen back: shorturl.at/kPs6t #Spéirgorm #Speirgorm

Oh that's cool! Grand stretch playlist and hand sewing sounds like a great combo ☀️ Ah, Bubble gum brain is cheesy early 00s pop I put on for cleaning or packing/unpacking to give me motivation 😂 open.spotify.com/playlist/1sG...

When it comes to inclusive postgraduate education in Ireland. This is proof that constructive advocacy can bring about positive impact and why it is always essential to consult/collaborate with disabled people in a meaningful way, across all sectors. 2/3

On a different note I'm grateful for all of my disabled friends in my life, who I have largely met through online spaces. I never had the opportunity to connect with other disabled folk in a meaningful way growing up. So to have this now in my life means a lot #IDPWD2024 #GE2024. 6/6

I would be lying if I said I haven't enjoyed the privacy - but that is my right, and the bare minimum every disabled person deserves. This is something I feel very strongly about, amongst other issues - means-test of disability supports, higher education, housing etc 5/6 #GE2024

To focus on the completion of my PhD & regain some sense of privacy in my life. I became involved in activism at a national level quite suddenly in 2021 (look up #CatherinesLaw), & while the work that followed was fulfilling, it was exclusively voluntary & I became burned out & had to prioritise 4/6

Disabled people have always lived a cost of living crisis. There is some notion we've an extra 12 hrs in the day for bureaucratic labour. We don't enjoy privilege of privacy & discretion. Every milestone is tinged with fear. Earlier this year I decided to temporarily step back from activism..3/6

In the room 'room'/included, unpaid work is work, disabled people are not "frank and honest" for literally plainly saying what a situation is (that's the brand name of a coffee, is what I say), disability/disabled are not dirty words, we've a lively culture which should be respected 2/6 #GE2024

Thanks for sharing, Tom. I'm really sorry to hear this. I am surprised to hear you've been unsuccessful in getting a blue badge. It is grossly unfair.

It feels like v little was learned from the contributions that were made during the #CareRef. A senior minister for disability would be very welcome, but across the board there were missed opportunities. How a system talks about disability can tell us so much about a society 4/4 #GE24

I've posed these Qs many times in meetings (some w/ politicians) & conferences. Many parties would do well to sit & reflect: What is your understanding of disability? What voices do you hear from the most RE disability? Who is/is not 'in the room'? Who has influence 'in the room?' #GE24 3/4

Framing disability as a solely 'health' & 'services' issue (albeit services being a totally valid concern) does not lend itself strongly to protecting our agency, autonomy, dignity, rights, privacy. These feel now like luxury items. They're not, they're human rights 2/4 #GE24

Thank you! It'll take me some time to get up & running, but I hear good things. Can I ask how you might have found me? It might help me to find our other pals 😀
