What a surprise: it looks like firms compensated to some extent for the large rise in the minimum wage by reducing the pay rises they offered to their other workers. (Overall, average pay rose less quickly than in the previous period.)

The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world. They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

Apparently Israel is a democracy. Benjamin Netanyahu has been elected prime minister of Israel six times. Six times. At some point the people of Israel should share the responsibility of the genocide their prime minister is doing on their name.

Just do it!

On the boat is also a French member of the European Parliament. Will Israel kill her as well?

As someone who through my mom grew up in the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada and Germany when it was OK to wave Ukraine's flag in all kinds of contexts, it's jarring to see US commentators who claim to be liberals order diaspora communities to abandon symbols of community solidarity

The Israeli defence minister has threatened to “take all necessary measures” to prevent a humanitarian ship carrying climate campaigner Greta Thunberg from reaching Gaza. -- well that sounds like a remarkably stupid move on his part.

US aggression versus EU membership: The UK must choose stability over Trump’s chaos 👏👏👏

Rutte on NATO's warnings that Russia could strike NATO: "If we don't act now, next 3 years we are fine, but we have to start now, because otherwise, from 3, 4 or 5 years from now, we are really under threat. I really mean this. Then you have to get your Ru language course out or go to New Zealand."

Probably this is what Trump wants. What he forgets is that those who oppose him are also armed to the teeth. And ironically this is the last line of defense for the American democracy.

I hate this framing. Truth is we are at 100% debt on GDP paying £100+ billion per year in interest and still run a huge budget deficit. We need to wake the f up.

The Republican politicians and their voters have no responsibility in this plan? We need to call them out one by one. Same in Britain with Brexit politicians and voters.

I don’t think it is just a Leave - Remain split. The main split is between those who trust the institutions to deliver services and those from the Trump / Farage tribe who are ready to destroy everything. So that’s that as well in my view.

President Zelenskyy: We counted on 20,000 missiles for #Ukraine to fight Shahed drones [promised by the previous US administration]. The United States now moved them to the Middle East."

Zelenskyy: "Trust me, we understand the Russians much better, the mentality of the Russians, than the Americans understand the Russians. I know for sure Putin doesn't want to stop the war."

Worth reading. Prof Dorling reveals how the Scottish Child Payment, introduced by SNP gov in 2021, which has reduced child poverty, has been ignored by Westminster. They can't conceive that we might do things better in Scotland. www.thenational.scot/news/2522006...

So according to this poll, a third of Lib Dem and Green voters, and one fifth of Labour voters trust Farage over Starmer to run the economy 🤷‍♂️. @robfordmancs.bsky.social can you help? Makes you wonder if they read the question right?

The fall of the Berlin Wall and the West winning the Cold War helped us have a peace dividend since 1990. The world is about to change with Russia, China, Israel, North Korea and now US being increasingly unstable.

🍽️ Food security = key aspect of national security. The European Parliament wants agriculture to be one of the priorities in the EU’s next long-term budget. MEPs call for a modern Common Agricultural Policy, support for small farms, climate-smart production, fair incomes & safe, quality food.

The more the malicious incompetence of the Trump administration generates domestic instability through escalating deployment of security forces against internal unrest, the less resources and bandwidth it has to do anything consequential to Canada or Mexico

A truly terrible development, for everyone. Things will not be ok in this country until liberal conservatism returns, but by God there isn't much sign of that.
