Bunch of hypocrites…

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Rahm Emanuel: President Donald Trump and his appointed officials are… helping Moscow’s and Beijing’s explicit intentions to replace the U.S.-led international order. If they are successful, China will emerge as the globe’s dominant superpower. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

“If we've been telling lies, you've been telling half-lies. A man who tells lies, like me, merely hides the truth. But a man who tells half-lies has forgotten where he put it.” — Mr. Dryden [Claude Rains], “Lawrence of Arabia,” written by Robert Bolt

The data in this story, which shows a huge generational surge in people identifying as trans or bisexual, is fascinating and suggests the need for a major reframing of how we think about "LGBTQ" both as a category and as a more-important-than-ever political coalition. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/u...

@pbump.com: “I would hate for Elon Musk to realize that keeping Trump in D.C. would save the government far more money than canceling various magazine subscriptions.”

Cue up the crocodile tears from Trump supporters every time Biden or Obama took a vacation.

Everyday Americans will pay for Republicans' billionaire tax breaks with their health care. They will pay for billionaire tax breaks with abandoned medical research. They will pay for billionaire tax breaks with shuttered family farms and small businesses. I'm voting NO.

Fascinating and sad story of a small town banker, a pillar in his community, who was scammed by crypto fraudsters. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/m...

The “Fog Bank”: How Trumpsters defy court orders about the Trump funding freeze. (Let’s start by noting these freezes are flatly illegal, not close cases, plain constitutional violations, which is why Trumpsters constantly lose in court.)

For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 1%, it can collect $13. For every $1 the IRS spends auditing the top 0.1%, it can collect $26. Laying off 7,000 IRS employees (during tax season) isn't about efficiency. It's about making it easier for the rich to evade taxes.

Crockett: "Down in Alabama, who's broke. Down in Louisiana, who's broke. I can go through pretty much the entire south and tell you that they're broke and rely on a lot of welfare from the government. To be perfectly honest, it is tax dollars from these big blue states...we're in the find out phase"

This false meme just showed up in my mentions. Let me debunk it right quick. The graph (falsely) shows Harris receiving 16M fewer votes in 2024 than Biden did in 2020, & (falsely) suggests this gap is evidence of fraud in 2020. In reality, Harris received 75M votes (only 6M fewer) in 2024.

In 2020 they used the Big Lie (100s of misleading claims) of "voter fraud" to try to overturn an election. In 2024 they're using similar tactics to create/amplify misleading claims of "government waste and fraud" to justify dismantling huge sections of the U.S. government.

Big anti-Trump and anti-Musk rally/protest at the federal building in Seattle right now. #standupfightback

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

A major lawsuit to end Elon Musk’s takeover of the federal government has landed before one of Donald Trump’s least favorite judges—Tanya Chutkan, who presided over Trump’s federal election interference case.

First episode of season 3 of The White Lotus is good with the usual menace, threat and white privilege. I wonder, given the series’ body count, why would anyone want to stay at this hotel chain, or work there? But … what fun to watch! 😉 #TheWhiteLotus

i feel like it's an open question whether or not the flu vaccine will even be available next season

The current presidential administration of the United States is pro flu 🤧.

This doesn't come as a big surprise. News articles have reported that finding and arresting immigrants would be difficult and costly. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...

Amen!

✅ DEI Employers of the Day™ 25 retailers that have stated commitments to diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) "As more retailers like Walmart and Target drop DEI initiatives, companies' efforts to find and fund Black-owned brands are also at risk." - @cnbc.com www.impactivize.org/dei-employer...

It’s the “Cult of America” and “Gulf of Mexico,” and not the “Gulf of America.”

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

They should all demand raises.

Foolish and reckless …

Elon’s very dumb argument that bureaucracy is at odds with democracy is rooted in his delusion that he acting on behalf of the people. The people strongly disagree. Gift link: wapo.st/3X3cD0z

Maybe Washington and the others who give more than we get should just keep some of that surplus at home. www.axios.com/2025/02/12/s...

How much Elon Musk makes from the government a day: $8 million. How much a senior on Social Security gets a day: $65 Guess which budget Musk and Trump want to cut?

I was led to believe that the two most important issues to American voters were the price of eggs and the risk of dementia in an aging president.

Just watched the moon set over the Olympic Mountains [view from my deck in Seattle]. Wow! #photography

The ‘American First’ crowd is awfully quiet about Trump’s pledge to build free housing for 2 million Palestinians in some random country they don’t want to go to that also doesn’t want them. I’m sure this will all work out fine and that’s what people thought they were voting for.

Inflation was up in January, despite Trump’s campaign promise to bring prices down. The inflation shoe starts to drop. Will Trump voters notice? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

Fascinating and a good example of how people who don’t understand complex systems can come to dumb conclusions.

I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it's the sand of the coliseum. He'll bring them death - and they will love him for it.
