Just decided to look it up on an inflation calculator, and my first serious computer would've cost me 8000 dollars today. Kind of puts things in perspective... I still pay almost that much for a work computer every couple of years...

I think the real problem is the constant lack of up-to-date documentation, and the very nested nature of alot of the editors involved. You also really need a team where the workload is divided, depending on the project of course...

This is something folks don't understand about game development. It's not about efficiency all the time the whole time. Sometimes you just need to get it done, if it works then it works. If you nitpick every issue while building the framework the project will mostly run out of runway.
