This graph ... I just struggle to believe it.
Especially given the reality of the standards of living in the USA (as understood from a European perspective).
Pretty sure any politician here in Britain that even suggested such a thing would be forced to apologise, resign and leave politics forever.

In the UK there is a small movement to target the companies that advertise with GB News (not-nice TV news channel) and ask them to spend their advertising budget in a better place.
Similar to what people did to the dark side (twitter).

Sounds about right.
I also heard he took a couple of days off to play golf (which American taxpayers might complain about, but I think the rest of us appreciate the reduction in chaos).

The day Roe and Wade was overturned, my cousin miscarried her much wished for and loved son Harry.
I remember thinking, at least she wasn't in the US where she might have to worry about being jailed for something she couldn't control, like some women in some Latin American countries are.

I got caught in a bit of an American politics algorithm loop this morning and came across this, which summed up my (British) feelings quite nicely: youtube.com/shorts/zBYoY...

Yep
Always wondered how the people in the Roman Empire felt as it collapsed. At least they had several hundred years of ... OK, not peace but stability (in Rome, at least).
(And no, I'm not sure to what extent this is a joke 😬)

Oh, I really wanna try and make some joke about how the war of independence was at least partly fought to avoid paying taxes and that is sort of what the orange tango is all about, but as a Brit I'm not sure that would be appropriate and I'm no comedian.

I guess it's better for the people of Russia that the banks don't go bust, war & hyperinflation is probably enough to be worried about.
I don't know about raising the value of the rubble ... other people have mentioned the gold buying spree they have been on, maybe it's linked to that somehow.

I confess I didn't understand a lot of this very interesting discussion, but from what little I did get, I am wondering if the banks have to pay 23% on a loan they don't want, is there a threat of some banks going bust(?)

Another point is that a lot of people don't want more houses (especially as it means less green space).
They want less immigration.
comment in response to

Not to mention that people who Need homes do not buy the sorts of houses built in or near protected areas because they simply cost too much.

I am in favour of PR.
I do think framing it as being a solution to the threat of Farage/Reform/fascism is incorrect, though.
The link below shows that if the last UK election had taken place under PR Reform, would have 94 MPs, not 5

Woodland trust for anything UK native.
Burncoose nurseries for anything special (very pricey for delivery though).
I also buy from best4hedges for ... hedge bushes/trees.
In some parts of the country you can also request a free tree.

I was just wondering what magat means?
Is it like maga twat or maggot, both or something else?

I agree, and as a green party supporter (mostly), I am in favour of proportional representation. My point was it seemed an odd choice to link it to the 'battle' against reform since it would like lead to a much higher number of reform MPs (& Green Party MPs ... maybe even a monster raving loony MP)
comment in response to
post
I thought the argument (such as it is) against proportion representation is that it does result in more extreme parties winning seats - but more parties win seats, so the overall effect is minimised/ coalitions become normal (which, in theory, means weaker govs) ?

According to this fascinating opinion tracker, the majority of Brits support the death penalty in only one particular crime and only 53-36%.

Do you know if buildings that used to house one large family but are split into more modest accommodation/ HMOs counted in the 'new housing' stats?

We are trying to convince our work to join a work dental plan.
I am looking at one privately, and I can afford it (ca £30 a month), but the huge cost of any work will put me in debt.
The current system is, like other parts of the healthcare system, postcode lottery craziness.

My old dentist was "happy" (direct quote) to let me know they were moving all their NHS patients over to their private practice last year. My boss and a colleague each owe their dentists £2,000+ so I'm searching for ways to extract a tooth at home.
Apparently, it's not recommended.

My robot vacuum cleaner broke a little indoor fountain I had, so it's now in the garden, filled with pebbles and rain water.

I agree with the sentiment, but honestly, I am just fed up reading about all the crap that goes on in the world.
Plus, I agree with the saying that when the USA catches a cold, the rest of the world ends up with the flu.

I'm not sure about radicalised, but watching Fern Gully as a kid definitely sent me down the path of wanting to protect animal rights, which in turn led me to environmental protection. I think I might have been pretty central politically otherwise.

I am more of a reader than a writer, but I love all things by Two Steps from Hell. Epic music that really takes me to all sorts of different places with such a variety.
