I agree! Nobody talks about Meta enough even though it has far more users than X

The mother in the group, wearing the same checked ribbon in her platinum-blonde dyed hair as her two children, spun around.
In a thick Essex accent, she shouted "We're all gonna die one day!".
And stormed off on her stilettos, towards the West End.

The steward, a man adorned in a hi-vis jacket covered with the relevant badges, enthusiastically asked the family if they were interested in learning about climate change.

Celebrities often talk about the paradox of 'getting famous', getting more money, and not having to buy clothing and accessories because it gets gifted to them. But celebrities are not in charge of public money.

Still, I don't think a middle ground is hard to find.
Nobody wants a government MP to be dressed in a shabby, badly fitted suit (look at every photo of Boris Johnson as PM, shirt dutifully untucked). But at the same time, most MPs earn enough to buy their own smart clothes.

Interesting piece! I've long felt that British politicians in particular are at pains to emphasise their 'working class credentials'. But I think its origins are less political than they are cultural.
It's quite un-British to gloat about, for example, your riches and your public school education.

I don't know, but lots of people take a very self-centred (or 'self-care') approach to life these days. And I worry that will have bad political consequences in the future.
So perhaps some form of, 'You know, helping others out sometimes is important' from the state might not be a bad thing.

It's purely anecdotal but since the pandemic I've seen so little will for people I know to travel to meet friends, help someone out where it might inconvenience them, and even order groceries to their home when they aren't sick/have mobility issues and have no dependants.

Stray. I think it's being released on the Switch this year and it is probably my favourite video game I've played in years. Brilliant storyline (which made me cry at the end somehow), plenty of puzzles, not-that-graphic fighting. And, of course, you get to play as a cat.

t is possible to be grateful for one's education whilst recognising that there are ways to change the system so we can one day have equality of opportunity.

I will always be grateful for the excellent education I had at a selective state school. And I worked hard to get there. But I will never say that just because I personally benefited from it, selective state schools are 'fair'. The same goes for religious comps/ single sex comps.

I've heard some of their staffers are, despite Sunak's gripe with Starmer for not working beyond 6pm on a Friday, only working 11am-4pm shifts in a general election.
Seems like they really are giving up!

The way she talks about other women her own age who date people of a similar age is also pretty patronising. I'm 27 and I'm pretty sure the solution to all of my problems isn't wishing my partner were 10 years older...

Now at the point where I wouldn't be surprised if they revive Pick for Britain but this time force those who are unemployed to do it or they lose their Universal Credit

Perhaps I'm wrong on this but I also think an October 2024 election is better for Labour depending on what happens with the Israel-Hamas war.
Outcry about Labour's approach to the Israel-Hamas war from the left is more likely to die down (and cost fewer votes) if the election is called in Oct 24
