We do like to talk a big game about resisting the illegal takeover of the CFPB, but, fair's fair, we've already started planning the logo for Elon's replacement plan.

The reality of litigation challenging the Trump administration is that it isn’t all going to win. That’s OK. I explain at Law Dork:

Recommend feds rewatch this given tonight's latest missive. Stay strong.

Are you bored tonight? Send your five accomplishments, maybe your shopping list, or your five thoughts on Elon from the past week to OPM at [email protected].

I really just cannot brag enough about how good this new @indivisible.org resource on next week's congressional recess is. If you're looking for practical ideas about what you can actually do in this moment, check it out: indivisi.org/muskorus

The Acting President discusses affairs of state, while the young boy and the old man share their boredom.

Probationary employees with less than 1 year of service at CFPB have received termination notices, but they are so hastily done that they don't have people's names, job titles, or other information. They literally say "I am removing you from your position of [JobTitle]... effective [EffectiveDate]"

"I promise, America will soon be the Cybertruck of countries—uglier than you could have imagined, built for rich chuds, borderline inoperable, and on fire."

Update: A federal judge in Boston extended his pause on the Trump administration's "Fork in the Road" offer to federal employees until he issues a subsequent decision.

Employees of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau were instructed to cease “all supervision and examination activity” and “all stakeholder engagement,” effectively stopping the agency’s operations www.nytimes.com/2025/02/08/u... @rmac.bsky.social @stacycowley.bsky.social

@washingtonpost.com is tracking who DOGE staffers are and which agencies they’re going to www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

I personally know multiple people who have been fired in the past couple of weeks. Hard-working civil servants who were just doing their jobs. It is terrifying that our best hope is the courts -- not only for federal employees, but for all Americans.

This is supremely fucked up. I mean, I read about this earlier, but to see it in writing is devastating.

Great piece by @elienyc.bsky.social. Our institutions won’t save us. Only we can do that. Twas always thus, and always thus will be. Make sure to read the entite thing here: www.thenation.com/article/poli...

If you are a federal employee working in anything related to climate, environment, or disasters, I'm @zoeschlanger.99 on Signal and would like to hear from you.

New — I did a brief history of the ‘Fork in the Road’ email to show how Musk screwed up by treating federal workers like fucking idiots, and how the pressure to resign is about breaking morale more than culling the workforce.

"We're hustling to streamline how Americans’ privacy is violated by putting every US citizen’s Social Security number on a public Google Sheet administered by the 19-year-old who programmed Grok’s sense of humor."

This @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social piece video what is happening--and how we should react--really well: Don't Believe Him | The Ezra Klein Show youtu.be/K8QLgLfqh6s This is really, really good.

If you are a federal government employee and you receive an email that the Fork in the Road deadline has been paused, please share it with me. I’ll keep you anonymous. Contact in bio. I’m interested in the language they use. They’ve been ordered to notify you.

Very approrpiate because current times are somewhere between Office Space and Idiocracy.

Judicial branch for the win (for now at least).

The Republican Party, which has spoken for decades about limited government and states rights, is now backing an autocratic takeover of the entire nation. But the real problem is the Democratic Party.

The U.S. Department of Labor is organizing a protest. Elon Musk’s staff will be present at the Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C., today at 4 p.m. It was mentioned that staff should plan to stay late after the 4 p.m. meeting to assist with setting up Elon Musk staffers into their systems.

ahem

Our institutions are failing us. Clearly the other 2 branches of government do not have the spine to stand up to this autocrat. Gift article: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/u...

PSA: If you're a government employee with a story to share, I want to hear about it. Anonymity will be granted. I can be contacted securely on Signal at marisakabas.04 or via email at [email protected]

it feels like deja vu for a reason! at Twitter, Musk demanded code reviews. in the government, a Tesla engineer is asking employees to submit "technical accomplishments." at Twitter, he stopped paying rent. in government, leases are getting cancelled. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/30/t...

To recap, Trump: -Forced out the FAA chief at Musk's insistence -Imposed a hiring freeze that reportedly included air traffic controllers -Fired the TSA head and gutted a key aviation safety committee -Blamed the DCA crash on DEI This is disastrous leadership.

Jim Acosta announces on air that he's leaving CNN and says, "it is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant ... don't give in to the lies."

We’ve matched the demographics of private schools to the surrounding public school districts, enabling parents, researchers and journalists to directly compare the makeup of private schools to local public systems. Check this out! @cerealcommas.bsky.social @natlash.bsky.social @schwanksta.com

Now wouldn’t that be a shame?

9 minutes of perfection (especially the Carter Funeral bit).

Now would be a good time for Merchan to pull an “LOL just kidding, go to jail”

This was my favorite of the eulogies today. I don’t think we will ever have a President again with as much integrity as Jimmy Carter. The same man publicly and privately.
