I like Padilla's answer regardless, but we really need to start contending with the fact news corporations are obviously putting a hand on the scale in favor of the Republicans.

Mainstream media is for the MAGA crowd now. I'm ancient and I stopped using them for reliable news sources since 2016. What terrified me is when local news affiliates turned to the propaganda side. Didn't even try to disguise it.
It's a new era now. There's always stragglers in transition moments.

Underrated story of the past decade or so is how low trust peoples' kinship networks have been shifted from direct kinship networks to online communities around cults of personality. Your typical low-trust American trusts random Hungarian anti-vaxx activists on vaccines over their RN daughter now.

The folks at WelcomePAC do stand for something: They (unlike, by the way, many of the "popularist" thinkers) don't want Democrats to make a populist attack against the rich. Which polling data clearly say is a good idea.
That's the basic fakery here.

(to the extent that the CIA has been competent at anything, it's basically been because they expanded their recruitment to a larger cross-section of America and not, again, WASP failsons)

(this is a minor point but recent history of the CIA is also illustrative of the fact that it has only been post-affirmative action/DEI that we have had anything like an actual "meritocracy" in this country)
