Ultimately, I think one of the main reasons we tell women to respond to radicalized, misogynistic men with “empathy” is because it reinforces gender hierarchy. It allows men to retain control and focus, while women are tasked (again) with managing their (and our own!) emotions.

If you think an autistic person is "dense" because they asked you clarifying questions, I hate to break it to you, but they needed to ask follow up questions because you didn't explain yourself well enough. Not because they have comprehension issues. Hope that helps 🙃

personally would like to see every store show what part of the price increase is due to tariffs bc if these tariffs ever come down, i need to see that price go right back down

Higher ed institutions refusing to emphasize the importance of “useless degrees” perpetuate this narrative. It’s part of higher ed’s profit-seeking business framework. So, the humanities always have to justify their own existence. Don’t cut those programs/depts/majors! They’re necessary.

“The workers and the unions, faculty, students, staff are leading and developing the fight in how to respond to the Trump administration, and we’re sort of dragging the universities along with us, slowly,” said Todd Wolfson, the president of the AAUP.

Governor Tim Walz @governorwalz.mn.gov "If you say you love freedom, but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love is not freedom, it is privilege."

Saying that orange dude can't do something because it's illegal/unconstitutional means nothing. He has committed several felonies with no consequence. Roe was settled law. ICE is disappearing people without due process. He "can't" is a theory. In practice? Not only "can" he but he "is."

Plenty of politicians on both sides of the aisle feel threatened by rising class consciousness.

I’ve always understood the concept of the 27 club, but never wanted to join until now.

MANAGEMENT ISN’T LEADERSHIP *pass it on*

“We need teachers; we need books!” “We need the money the billionaires took!” “It’s our time. We didn’t ask for this. We don’t deserve this, but we will meet the moment,” — @psc-cuny.org president James Davis #HandsOffHigherEd #HandsOffOurStudents

Hey Bluesky… 👋🏾💕

1. Great news. Yesterday, Planned Parenthood of Arizona restarted gender affirming care for transgender adults. This decision comes after widespread public outcry at a "pause," which was seen as overcompliance with Trump threats. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Yes, this is crass. But also…

I met with my agent while I was in NYC and asked him how the tariffs would impact book publishing. "Where does the majority of our wood pulp come from?" he asked. "Canada." "And where is the majority of US books printed?" "China." Sigh.

Trump has officially evaporated an entire year of stock market gains in two days.

it’s true that a lot of major universities and law firms have the resources to fight back against these awful executive orders it’s also true that many of them are run by powerful people who are delighted to have an excuse to go after a bunch of people they’ve always resented having to listen to

"University leaders are unpracticed in reacting quickly & collectively to attacks on their institutions." If only unis had organized groups of all kinds of workers on campus, with hard-learned tactical skills & a hunger to resist, whom leaders could view as allies rather than annoyances. Oh wait.

Today, a senior in finance told me that they thought Trump was moral and ethical… Then blamed Ukraine for the war 😅

Today I had the opportunity to present my dissertation topic at a research colloquium 🥹🥰

They love disabled people in “inspirational” stories, until we ask for healthcare, jobs, and rights.

folks with the expectation that university presidents will act nobly: may I introduce you to the Board of Trustees

On academic independence: I sat in a meeting room with top leadership two years ago of a flagship U.S. university and asked them “what are you doing about ideological risk?” They asked me to clarify what I meant. I said “your entire board of trustees are appointed by your state governor. … (1/2)

I had to report professors for ignoring student accommodations last semester 🫠

Instead of razing humanities programs to the ground, we need to do this with *business schools*.

Okay about to start year 3 of my PhD program. I am not happy with my university or coursework. Is it worth switching at this point or should I just power through 😅 Also debating if a PhD is still worth it with all the recent news…

During my PhD, I read an article by a certain US constitutional lawyer that I thought got Schmitt very wrong when they applied his theory to the administrative state. It took me until now to realise that that was intentional.

I saw a video of known alcoholic Pete Hegseth drinking multiple scotches in the middle of a televised presser and started laughing so hard I began coughing as I believe we're less than 2 weeks removed from him promising never to drink a single time as Secretary of Defense and nothing matters anymore

Stop using phrases like “tone deaf” stop saying “blind” to imply recklessness. Stop using disability as a negative analogy. Whether you mean to or not you are dehumanizing disabled people.

Not a top reason why it's all collapsing, but the MPA (an advanced degree in governance) not being treated as prestigiously as the MBA, MD or JD has created one more exploitable gap for the right to destroy government. We only value profit-driven education. Public service is always an afterthought.

We’re just taking it one day at a time 🫠😭

is it woke to want to end cancer?

I’m so sorry that I’m disabled sir. Let me try to be less disabled so I can best accommodate your preferences.
