It is not that I have faith in my approach, it is that I have seen (even today) the benefits of bipartisanship, care existentially about some of our institutions and norms, and lack faith in the scope and scale of the approach that you lay out.

There are many communities that pay extremely close attention to what might seem to be mundane federal legislation that would disagree. Some places are virtually dependent on bipartisanship. I wish I was free to elaborate, but I am not.

I take your point. My point is that a passive Dem is better than an active GOP. I hear you saying that if voters are passive now we could lose our democratic republic. We agree on that in principle, but perhaps not as applied here. In any event, I suspect we are largely aligned.

Tell us what you are doing about it, Senator.

I don't agree with all of this. There are issues that we Dems can share with GOP that do not warrant exile. It is just that those issues pale in comparison to the plundering of our nation by the wealthy and destruction of the rule of law. Nuance is ok to me.

I am not advocating for moderation, whatever that means; that is your interpretation. I do think that nobody knows what is on the other side of indifference to our institutions and norms, some of which I value, some of which I don't.

Not missing any point. I agree with some of what you say, but we need as many neutral or better members of Congress as possible. Pushing for the mere sake of it ends up dissipating our resources. I still have not read anything persuasive about how this proposed reactionary effort helps our cause.

Of course I protest. That's not the topic at hand. Interesting to me that you wrote "he said from his recliner." What leads you to write that? If you are interested in organizing and gathering support I would suggest not insulting folks whose ideas do not perfectly coincide with yours.

I assume that they considered their options and took the path that they thought best after comparing this issue to everything else that is happening.

They barely care about it today. If the left is going to organize it needs to be around core issues, not ephemeral stuff like this.

I get the sentiment but some of these reps narrowly won their seats last year vs. Republicans. Not a hill worth dying on, IMO.
comment in response to post
Even if voting otherwise would cause them to lose their seats to Republicans in 2026?

I can't force you to think critically. If words fill your tummy then go to sleep peacefully, little lamb. I want action. Also, take a look at the State of Oregon and tell me that they have done enough.

Thanks for the town hall. Now do something. We are all watching and waiting.

100% I am sick of the grandstanding and want to see some innovative action from our delegation. Town halls are important but Wyden needs to do more. Maybe it is time for a new generation of Oregon senators?

Thank you Senator. What are the three most significant things that you are doing to save our democracy?

Senator, what are the three most effective things you think you are doing to protect working people against this new administration?

Senator, I appreciate S. 588 which you sponsored, but insulting your opponents doesn't do a damn thing to help and is cold comfort to your constituents. Are you going to sponsor meaningful legislation to do something or are you just going to semantically exploit our collective disgust?

Oliver North did nothing but compromise American values.
