Hey, what's up with books having sprayed edges these days? LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY! I was there! Thread: 1/13

Lol. I missed that the author of NIST 800-63 Appendix A had formally apologized for his sins

Billionaires have more class solidarity than we do.

Georgia keeps fighting and it must not be overlooked: On February 21 alone, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs imposed a staggering 750,000 GEL (270,000 USD) in fines against peaceful protesters in Tbilisi. Video: Giorgi Burjanadze

Worst. Episode. EVER.

Any countries building Starlink into their telecom systems should be thinking twice right now.

Exclusive: A letter from Hong Kong was sent to a London resident asking them to report wanted activist Tony Chung, noting that a reward of HK$1 million will be offered to anyone who "take him to Chinese embassy". Chung said he never lived in that area. www.voacantonese.com/a/exclusive-...

Amazon gains full creative control of Bond. I'm not even particularly a fan, but it was impressive to see decades of fairly rigid quality control. You can now kiss that goodbye under this simpering halfwit. Just more sludge to be fed into the content engine. www.theguardian.com/film/2025/fe...

Lie after lie has been told this week about how the Ukraine war started, from the Kremlin and the White House. Here's our News Agents video essay which explains the truth, and spells out why Trump clings so close to Putin and lives in his warped reality. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cufM...

Breaking: at 31-Dec-2024, a record 40.2% of the #HK prison population (excluding immigration detainees) had not been convicted. That's 3889 people, also a record. Innocent unless and until proven guilty. webb-site.com/dbpub/jail.asp

The Democratic Party says it is preparing to disband. Hard to blame them when they’ve been effectively barred from standing in HK’s “patriots-only” elections but it’s still another dark sign of the times — truly the end of the era when HKers had any hope of affecting change through the ballot box.

Trump’s standing in the UK - what little there was - is collapsing further after the events of the last few days. A new YouGov poll of Brits find just 3% agree with him that Ukraine was the cause of the war. That’s 13% below those who think the moon landings were faked.

People literally died from Covid while claiming it doesn’t exist. There is never going to be a wake up call for some people. A lot of people. It’s not about convincing them if they can’t be convinced. IMO it’s about overwhelming them entirely with opposition.

It’s not impossible that Trump has literally saved Putin’s life.

I have a serious question about this kind of thing. Why quit? That allows for a headline about your resignation, but that’s it. Stay and refuse to comply, get as much as you can in writing, and make them fire you improperly, get a severance and sue for wrongful dismissal if it’s an available option.

one of the really fundamental unspoken US ideas for a long time was that men above a certain social level should never face consequences. this bought us Trump 2 in two ways, both in the failure to punish him and in the rage about MeToo breaking this rule

How about an election in Russia?

I guess it's good he was charged at all, but can't help of thinking about all the people sitting in HK jails in remand for the past few years for stuff like bad-mouthing the govt on Facebook.

Why is Trump treating Russia like the victor?

If we, Europeans, fail to spend big on defence now, we will be forced to spend 10 times more if we don’t prevent a wider war. As the Polish PM I’m entitled to say it loud and clear, since Poland already spends almost 5% of its GDP on defence. And we will continue to do so.

Who has really sacrificed most to help Ukraine.

Putin can end the fighting anytime he wants. He just needs to take his nasty little pockmarked fascist arse and carry it back to Russia where it fucking belongs.

We know where the US stands. It is now de-facto pro-Putin. We know where Britain stands. It will contribute troops to prevent Russian aggression. We need to know where Europe stands.

Starmer confirming the UK is willing to put boots on the ground in Ukraine. An immense moment. Hard to overstate how important this is or how impressive it is that he's done it.

Lots of points to ponder and good quotes in the interview re Jimmy Lai, Hong Kong, the UK, etc. This is one I wish people would "get". "China despises weakness, and when it smells weakness, it takes advantage of it."

Back in 2019, the HK press corps started coordinating their clothes and wore neon vests and hard hats to police pressers as a silent protest around late-summer. By October they were walking out. And by November, they were just bringing protest placards to those pressers because why not

Opinion: "Because organisations like PORI are not controlled by the authorities and use scientific methods, they have credibility and our leaders need to take their results seriously," writes John Burns. In full: https://buff.ly/3CQlUCq
