This time of year is ideal for capturing the sunset from Calton Hill, Edinburgh as seen here last week; several Edinburgh landmarks can be picked out.

Edinburgh after sunset this evening, taken from Calton Hill, a great vantage point. The prominent tower is that of the Balmoral Hotel, once the North British railway hotel. By tradition, its clock is always kept a few minutes fast…..

Heading north on the train; the view of Durham Cathedral is always an exciting moment!

Busy scene at New Mills Central yesterday as 66754 eases through working empty stone wagons back to Dowlow from Smallheath. 1951119 is in the opposite platform on a Sheffield to Manchester stopping train.

Interesting day yesterday exploring the Torrs Millenium Walkway and Peak Forest Canal at/near New Mills, Derbyshire

A favourite with photographers; the ruined barn at Roach End in the Peak District; seen in golden evening light from a near cloudless sky last week

66044 passes Milford, Derbyshire today working from Kingsbury Oil Terminal to Humber Oil Refinery. This train is only routed this way on Sundays

Enjoyed a few hours photographing waterfalls up Grindsbrook, Kinder Scout today; this is the view up Golden Clough to Ringing Roger

Enjoyed the first day of the Great Central Railway’s Winter Steam Gala yesterday; despite the mainly damp and cold conditions! Visiting locos no.6880 ‘Betton Grange’, 2-8-0 no.3850 and 0-6-2T no.6695

On a beautiful afternoon yesterday, Win Hill, Lose Hill and the Vale of Edale from the Nab; getting close to the end of a lovely walk from Hope

#shedwatch in lovely afternoon light today, the 14:28 Tunstead to Wellingborough passes through Edale in the Peak District behind class 66 no.66726 'Sheffield Wednesday'

Closing my account on Threads that I’ve been running in parallel with this one on BlueSky; decided I like BlueSky better!

Beautiful day for a Peak District walk up onto Kinder Scout; what a difference a few days makes with the snow nearly all gone!

Engineering work south of Sheffield this week allowed some rare trackage to be travelled over; the Dore south curve! Liverpool to Norwich trains have been stopping at Hope Valley stations and travelling direct to Chesterfield; this is the 15:33 from Hathersage to Norwich yesterday

Some beautiful snowy scenes in the Peak District today; this is Carrhead Rocks above Hathersage

The view over Edinburgh from the castle a few days ago; spectacular!

The Pentland Hills, just outside Edinburgh are very wintry at the moment; good for a bracing walk today!

Sunrise from Blackford Hill, Edinburgh today; a cloudless sky and feeling absolutely baltic!❄️

Enjoyed a cocktail treat at The Dome in Edinburgh this afternoon. A former bank, the building has been beautifully decorated for Christmas

The weather made it really atmospheric on the Great Central Railway today; Great Western Hall class ‘Witherslack Hall’ is seen here at Rothley; the grandson loved it!

Who doesn’t love a GWR Castle class; so aesthetically perfect! ‘Clun Castle’ arrives back At Birmingham Moor Street station yesterday on A Polar Express working

Great Western splendour at Birmingham Moor Street station today; Clun Castle working the ‘Polar Express’

Walked from Chinley to Edale today; pleasant enough but the forecast sunshine never materialised and the wind higher up was a bit brutal!
