Nearly 2⁰C. Incredible. Things are moving fast, and humanity continues to sit on its hands.

Breaking News! Code Yikes! In addition to record low Arctic sea-ice extent (which is now 350,000 km² below the previous daily record), as of the latest data (December 11th), global mean surface temperatures are once again at a record high for the day, at 1.68°C above the pre-industrial average.

How hot is it?

Climate data from @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social shows, it is virtual certainty that 2024 will be the warmest year on record and the first calendar year above 1.5°C. This does not mean the Paris Agreement has been breached, it means ambitious #climateaction is more urgent than ever 🧪⚒️🌏🌡️📈

Breaking news! November, 2024, came in at the second warmest in recorded history, at 1.62°C above the pre-industrial baseline. Starting in June, 2023, there have now been 18 consecutive months above the pre-2023 record high, likely the hottest string of 18 months in the last 120,000+ years.

This should be front page news, but the media chooses to ignore it. We should be in a cooling phase post El Nino, but temperatures have basically stayed at El Nino levels. The "Fuck around" phase of climate change is over. We are now "Finding out".

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

You haven't been reposting me are you OK?

The science underlying these issues is strong, but awareness is weak. Without fully appreciating and broadcasting the scale of the problems and the enormity of the solutions required, society will fail to achieve even modest sustainability goals. www.frontiersin.org/journals/con...

Repost this if you’re old enough to remember when they tried to convince us that “global warming stopped in 2008” (or whenever).

does someone have a good list of climate/energy people to follow here at this excellent place?
