"If Ukraine’s story is to be told accurately and powerfully, it must be told by those who live it. But they can’t do it alone," writes Kyiv Independent's CEO Daryna Shevchenko in her recent op-ed.

these kids will never grow old, Russia killed them in Kryvyi Rih yesterday.

These are the names of the 9 children whose lives russia took in yesterday's attack Their blood is on russia's hands Tymofii, age 3 Arina, age 7 Herman, age 9 Danylo, age 15 Alina, age 15 Kostyantyn, age 16 Mykyta, age 15 Nikita, age 17 Radyslav, age 7 Nine kids. Killed Source: U24GOVUA

💯 "Keeping quiet about the fact that it is Russia that is killing children with ballistic missiles is dangerous. It only incites the scum in Moscow to continue the war and continue to ignore diplomacy. Weakness has never ended wars," — Zelensky

This is Tymofii. Russia killed him with a cluster-loaded Iskander missile strike on Kryvyi Rih. He was only 3 years old. #Ukraine

People carry flowers and toys after the Russian missile strike near the playground where children died. Russia continues to lie that Russian missiles hit military personnel. Putin continues to lie to Trump that he wants peace.

Couldn’t resist…

Police published a bodycam footage of the first moments after yesterday's russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, which killed 18 people, including 9 children Some of the things said: "these kids are gone", "there is a little boy still breathing", "another missile coming, run", "his leg is torn off"

I know there is a lot going on right now, but we still need your support. Please keep standing with Ukraine 🇺🇦

Hi All, Just put together this post on the new mineral "deal" proposed for Ukraine. Its an entirely predictable attempt by Trump to help Putin. Ukraine, in response, needs to react like Canada or Greenland, and (sadly) not like American institutions. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

I adore this poem by Iryna Shuvalova. Five years ago—in what feels like another life, when I had long hair, and there was no big war—Ira let me record it. My translation is far from perfect, but the original is worth learning Ukrainian for. Happy #PoetryDay!

From 17–21 March, we want you to #ShoutOutForGerman

#Empathy in my world is powerful, essential to life. It helps us raise our kids, grow deep understanding of and cherish interconnections between people and communities, including non-human life forms. Without it we are husks, soulless, unable to understand the pain and needs of others.

After all that, I dreamt I was watching a trial with Putin in the dock and a famous Ukrainian writer acting as the prosecutor. Let’s hope it was a prophetic dream. Now that would make for some great television.

I want to amplify this message because what happened last night in Kharkiv was a blatant and deliberate act of russian terror against civilians. Russia launched NINE kamikaze drones at the city, targeting only civilian areas—including a hospital and residential buildings.

Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine. We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the agressor. Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.

The best explanation for Trump’s Ukraine strategy (from someone with a long career in D.C.): The deal was always going to be so unacceptably bad that Ukraine would have to reject it. Trump can then say we tried to make peace but Ukraine (& Europe) didn’t want peace. And wash his hands of it.

Total bully tactics by the US president and VP. This is not diplomacy. This is not neutrality. This is siding with the aggressor and trying to finish off the victim. President Zelensky was the only one in the room to behave with dignity.

Whether a deal happens or not, Zelenskyy has shown the world what true humanity and leadership are. He is a man of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Every Saturday at 2pm Ukrainians living in the Cambridge area join local people to #StandWithUkraine After today's disgusting display by Trump and Vance such solidarity is more important than ever. From Cambridge to Kharkiv, we must stand together for freedom and democracy.

The EU wasn’t formed to screw anyone. Quite the opposite. It was formed to maintain peace, to build respect among our nations, to create free and fair trade, and to strengthen our transatlantic friendship. As simple as that. 🇪🇺🇺🇸

Some betrayals are loud. Others are just silence stretching too far. War doesn’t just destroy cities — it destroys relationships. Here’s my essay about what happens when love, friendship, and family don’t survive war. www.patreon.com/posts/123172...

Once, an old bear found a girl weeping in a churchyard, close to his cottage. He took her home & tucked her up, & fed her cloudberries & plain cake & let her sleep for days & days under cold linen sheets & feather eiderdowns, & he didn't speak, not one word, unless she wanted to.

Do not let the tragic spirit of despair overcome us when our country needs us the most

FACTS AND TRUTH MATTER Trump has suggested Ukraine started the war with Russia. That is not true. We all need to call this out

🚨FACTS AND TRUTH MATTER If you still agree with this principle please watch & share this FACT CHECK widely youtu.be/HpmDquOkSCY?...

Make this @OfficialUoM press release viral “Trump … echoed Kremlin talking points, by falsely claiming …Zelensky’s approval rating stands at a mere 4%…polling…puts his approval rating at 63% - making him the most popular politician in the country.” www.manchester.ac.uk/about/news/t...

Zelensky's approval rating: 57%; Zelensky's net favourability (% who approve minus % who disapprove): 20% Trump's approval average on 538: 49.4% Trump's net favourability on 538: 4% Trump is confusing his own ratings with Zelensky's. Zelensky is *much* more popular than him.

'By Burns’s time, the Scots language, once a language of politics and high culture in Scotland, was rather looked down upon as a peasant tongue. The same was true of Ukrainian in the Russian Empire'. A great piece by Uilleam Blacker on the tumultuous life of Vasyl Mysyk, one of Burns’s translators!

Here's my short text honouring the brilliant Vasyl Mysyk and his translations of Robert Burns, only just a little bit late for Burns Night. If you like it, please subscribe for future posts! substack.com/home/post/p-...

Any woman who has ever received online abuse has some understanding of what Jess Philips is now exposed to, but it is on an entirely different level. It is dangerous to her safety. Yes, it is diplomatically “delicate”. But if you do nothing it is an admission of your own impotence. A capitulation.

Once again, to be sure: the Presidential Palace in Georgia holds very little significance, and this particular one is what President Zourabichvili had chosen for herself, she’s been the first incumbent there. Previously, there was something else for Saakashvili and Margvelashvili. 1/

This Christmas morning, I spent hiding in my bathroom from Russian missiles. There wasn't much I could do except post about it and check monitoring channels to see if more missiles were on their way. There was a lot on the way. I hoped and prayed that they wouldn't kill me or my family across the

Usyk’s victory is a reminder: Ukraine fights, Ukraine endures, Ukraine wins.

Our champion! Legend! No matter if the opponent is heavier and higher, you can win. WE CAN WIN!

🇪🇺 Kaja Kallas: "There’s no point pushing Zelensky to talk when Putin doesn’t want to talk. We can’t talk about European peacekeeping forces when there’s no peace. Why is there no peace? Because Russia does not want peace in Ukraine."

This has been clear for many months. If Putin wants to negotiate, he can stop fighting anytime. And negotiate. He is the obstacle to peace, not Zelensky, and has been since the beginning of the war. Still not heard Trump explain what leverage he will use to make him stop

Friends, As you can imagine, the mood is not very festive in Ukraine these days. I know that many of you are also not up to celebrating. How do you cheer yourselves up and get a little of the holiday spirit? 📷: Christmas tree in Kyiv
