This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

I’ve never seen single payer healthcare described in US headlines as a “majority public opinion” despite polling saying it is

The United States government just disappeared a lawful US resident because it didn't like his speech. You should care about this because it shouldn't happen to anyone, but you should also care because it could happen to you. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/09/n...

What happened to congressman John Lewis' good trouble? See that's what happens when democrats coopt radicalism when they're actually not about the business. They had good trouble right in front of them in Al Green. They said, we're good lying down for Trump going by the playbook he tramples on.

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

been thinking a lot about the media reaction to Biden's first debate performance compared to its response to fascism

This scrum of pot-bellied, sunken-chested betas trying to bully an all-black clad badass Eastern European wasteland survivor while dressed like Men’s Wearhouse mannequins is peak cinema.

I apologize that I don’t have time to add the alt text for this right now, but Hanif Abdurraqib with an important call out to everyone

i genuinely thought this was hyperbole and was prepared to see something, anything on the NYT site but literally there is nary a peep on the entire US vertical

There is nothing Sade can’t cure.

It's not complicated. They're just trying to stop women from being able to vote.

Once again, I am here from Poland to tell you that predicating your response to a rule of law crisis on fear of how your opponents will frame your resistance is as ineffectual as it is solipsistic.

My dad, Vice President of PATCO Local 203, who was fired by Reagan nods vigorously from the beyond.

We need to get off the internet:

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

This by Dan Savage is I think important to keep top of mind. It speaks to the point I made earlier that bad news is never the only news.

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.

"Ambushed" by a plea for mercy is a real language choice.

I just think about Altadena and it makes me so goddamn sad, man.

incomparable

We need to push back on this now. If you’re not in CA, call your reps. Tell them how you feel about attaching strings to disaster aid. If they’re Dems, tell them you want them to hit back hard over this. If they’re GOP, focus on how un-Christian it is or something.

I can't tell you how absolutely livid I feel about the fact that, while I'm checking in with Los Angeles friends to make sure they and their homes are safe, certain Republican senators are going on TV and explaining with shitty little grins how LA had it coming and doesn't deserve relief aid.

I talked to the Black residents of Altadena who say they’ve lost everything but hope. “When you escape tragedy, you say, ‘it could have got me.’ It didn’t. So I’m going to keep on going,” said 83-year-old Walt Butler.

NEW: I've obtained internal Meta docs revealing an array of sample posts that are now allowed under new hate speech rules. Examples include calling children "trannies," “Jews are flat out greedier than Christians," and “immigrants are grubby, filthy pieces of shit” theintercept.com/2025/01/09/f...

Bennie Maupin & his family lost their home in Altadena. www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-m...

There are families who will never be able to come back from this devastation, and many of them were in generational homes, passed down from people who bought homes in the 1970sand 80's in Altadena. All of the fires are a tragedy, but especially for those who don't have the resources to rebuild.

What’s even more uncanny: Octavia Butler lived — and is buried — in Altadena, the location most devastated by the Eaton fire.

Anyway, four years ago I wrote about leaving LA and a foolish, futile attempt to escape the climate disaster. It’s here, it’s everywhere, and it’s coming for all of us if we do nothing. redcanarycollective.org/magazine/bey...

Just semi-confirmed the home we lived in and loved five years ago was lost in the Eaton fire. So much love to LA and the Altadena community right now.

I lived in LA for over 20 years and Altadena for 5. Today has just been devastating to watch.

All my worst wildfire nightmares in my old neighborhood of Altadena are happening tonight. Stay safe, LA.

This is the kind of fire and these are the kind of weather conditions that could take Topanga out. I wrote about it a few years ago . And id bet all my money that crews from Malibu 13 are in the Palisades saving homes and lives www.nytimes.com/2021/06/19/u...

This song JUST found its way to me last week. Happy it’s getting the love it deserves.

I wrote about Car Brain, the people who cannot calm down about NYC's new congestion pricing toll, and the media that exists to make sure they never calm down about anything. defector.com/democracy-di...

Two disturbed guys rent trucks and commit public acts of violence to deliver explicit ideological messages: one gets the scare story about who radicalized him, the other gets a sympathetic, nonpolitical account of his trauma

I don’t go out for new years, but we’re seeing Dirty Dozen Brass Band (early show) tonight. Let’s be sure the likes of this year fuck off and never ever return.

The brush with near-tears trying to sing along with Fairytale of New York season is truly upon us.
