#caturday and Edward Gorey's birthday

They're deleting all the old movies because they don't want you to know that it was once possible to be conventionally attractive with a regular amount of working out.

Could we send this guy to Palo Alto?

I hate when a narrative is reinforced by factual events

LOL

Measles are contagious. Measles cause 1 in 4 people to be hospitalized. Measles can be deadly especially in children. Measles can cause blindness & deafness. Measles can cause brain damage yrs later. Measles can cause "immune amnesia". Measles are preventable with MMR vaccine. #medsky #IDsky 🛟 😷🧪

Hint: they’re not happy about it

To state the obvious as has been observed my countless people on numerous occasions, Dems speaking about red areas 10 percent as harshly as Republicans speaking about blue areas is treated as a massive scandal.

I think we should all do our patriotic duty and tell them what we’ve been up to for the past week.

New, from me @theatlantic.com: *No, the federal government is not too big *It has real human capital needs *Firings are indiscriminate, weakening state capacity *Creating a toxic and politicized workplace is driving away dedicated employees www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

I beta-read this. I've never wanted to write fan fiction so much in my LIFE. Publishers need to cage fight over this one.

Re LRS, states are categorically better than individuals at violence. If states cease to be categorically better than other organizations at violence they get overthrown in revolutions. The orgs that win revolutions are the ones that are best at violence, not the ones with the best ideas.

the purpose of violent conflict is to reduce the enemy's will to resist until they are incapable of resistance. a well-armed and competent opposition force capable of violence but only tepidly willing to commit it should not be put in fear of its life for the same reason you don't corner a herbivore

Please. Pleeeaasseee. Feel free to ask me about our local candidate training programs!

Put another way: "leftists hate centrists and centrists hate the leftists, but *everyone* hates the Democrats". There are too many people that hate Trump and the Democratic Party's current approach for this to be sustainable. And Trump isn't going to change

This is a bold strategy for a Massachusetts politician to go with Does he know that most of his electorate is driven by spite? Does he know he just signed his own political suicide note?

If the legislative and judicial branches let them get away with all these illegal cuts, we will shortly have a famine in America. Mark my words.

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

I had a woman who took all my kids’ books about pride off display and threw them in the book drop. Joke’s on her. Any time you throw something in the book drop or hide something, we have to scan it back in. That’s a circ, which means they’re more likely to order more copies.

I don't even think it's out of hatred so much as it is about making a SPECTACLE of immiserating and psychologically torturing workers. It's a core part of his brand, and should be understood as a branding exercise.

biden was a great president except when it came to what he imagined to be his area of expertise (foreign policy), his electoral proposition (he is a white guy everyone likes), and the most important thing he was called upon to do (permanently incapacitate donald trump)

this is also a great cautionary tale about the belief that people in silicon valley just need to read books

This is 100% correct — I have heard the Silicon Valley money guys admit as much out loud, about *all* of these fools.

Today is Bob Sheldon Day, commemorating the life and death of activist bookseller Bob Sheldon, who was assassinated in Chapel Hill, NC on Feb. 21, 1991 at the height of the antiwar movement against the First Iraq War 🕯️🕯️🕯️ Gone but not forgotten!

The City of Boston is leading 40+ mayors, cities, and counties in an amicus brief against the Trump Administration's drastic and illegal cuts to federal research funding—cuts that will lead to immediate job losses nationwide.

this is an act of unspeakable violence. it benefits no one, it doesn’t move a number on a balance sheet. it only guarantees that every one of these incarcerated transgender people will be tortured.

The wholesomeness of today’s Wikipedia PotD is killing me en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leland_...

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Also, just a little side note, and I know this was metaphorical, but it’s always a good time to mention that we need to end literal Brahmin supremacy, too. That vile, toxic practice is part of what enabled the fascist takeover in India, driven by right-wing religious extremism there.

Not all heroes wear capes 🤣🔥

this whole album is just so crucial but esp the song "Disco" by the Rollies...so necessary

If I was a shareholder at Tesla, which has tanking sales even during soaring interest in EVs, I might have questions about the CEO clearly not doing any work at the company and being on meth. I know the actual shareholders are all dumbies and true believers, but I'm just saying

The problem is not the strategists and consultants -- it's elected officials only listening to advice that involves tinkering around the edges of failing status quo politics. If you start hyping democracy, empowering party membership and aggressive action, you get shown the door 99% of the time.

In modern history, what is the least popular that party leaders have ever been to their OWN voters? Second place was the GOP in 2009, where their net approval with Republican voters was only +6. Currently Dems are -8, shattering all previous records.
