I linked the dev blog in particular because seeing their deep understanding of Deus Ex and elaborating on how they make their own sauce is why I look forward to it

Idk if they had enough data but I still had my mind blown by this, as I had attention issues when reading technical stuff but anything else could keep me in focus for hours

While soldiers deploy to downtown Los Angeles to deal with a small protest, freight trains carrying tanks have moved into DC for Trump's bizarre military parade.
The absurd theatrics are a sign of a weak, frightened regime. They're flailing. The desperation is palpable.

Ghost in the Shell might be a peek into what it's like at the top in the Sprawl universe (nations are losing agency and corporations like Poseidon are mindbogglingly massive, but the higher ladders of governments still have a lot of bite and can make or unmake tech giants)

Wilson: But man, [Musk's impeachment comment] alone is going to cause Trump inside the White House to begin going after JD Vance — maybe not publicly but to begin to be paranoid about Vance and worry about who Vance is meeting with, and who he’s talking to, and so on.

(I spent time writing a long Belter Creole sentence and was too embarrassed by the result to let the sunk cost fallacy fully play out)

It's not so much a single feature IMO, but more holistically the fact that it tries to attack the problem at its source and essentially redesign the entire personal computing and networking stack with P2P applications in mind and with the benefit of hindsight.

I've been convinced that the foundation of a P2P internet is going to have to be something similar to Urbit, even if not Urbit itself because its founder is a reactionary. There are just too many issues with the entire network/OS stack that prevent P2P applications from becoming more mainstream.

It would be very funny if the project that had design sketches referring to users as "lords", "dukes", and "earls" becomes a staple of cybernetic communism

I guess this works too. I would simply hope for Miller to do his own backhand slap afterward. For completion's sake

there are reasonable questions to have about ai, especially the unhinged ai hype coming out of silicon valley; i find that it discredits valid criticisms if you leaven them with stuff that is just not true

so the part where AI hallucinates shit is correct. the part where AI destroys the environment is a meme with little connection to reality. the water use everyone talks about is just the water use involved in electricity generation... which is even higher for, say, streaming music or video
