Liberals fear that if people act unruly, Trump will be able to impose totalitarian control. That gets things backwards. Trump is already imposing totalitarian control. That's what is driving people into the streets. It's too late to avoid this fight. We can be passive and lose—or give it our all.

i make no predictions about how the next few weeks / months will unfold, but i just want to note that two-thirds of autocracies have fallen because of internal mistakes by the regime and that counterproductive repression is core to 12-15% of those failures wedontagree.net/maybe-trump-...

It is so frustrating when people say that Trump needs a pretext to escalate or a reason to be authoritarian. There is no justification for either and he has already done both without needing an excuse. This is what abusers do. They victimize regardless of what their victims do

The most well-known statistic about AI water use is a lie. This makes it frustrating to talk about AI and the environment, and this is a long deep dive on that specific point. www.verysane.ai/p/the-bigges...

"As a dissident, winning the culture war means cultural dominance, which means becoming fashionable. Culture is still downstream from power, but your hobbit coup will go way better if you have a fifth column within the elf ruling class—and a hidden cadre of dark elves who can emerge to rule"

At long last, good AI discourse

This is not just revisionist history, it's ignorant of reality. Activists didn't leave Twitter because they "thought they would be more effective" somewhere else, they left because Elon made it clear that he would *deliberately undermine their influence." Why make shit up?

Covid is stored in the balls

This is the way. 10 protests of 100 people much more disruptive to a city and its police than one protest of 1000.

this is a very old but very good analysis of riot squads and tactics www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT9b...

I have one last hope for a Deus Ex-tier imsim community.coredecay.com/blog

People like this are just like Qanon. A lone person did not trick an entire city into an uprising against a brutal murder that was followed by police attacks on protesters. Stop denying people's agency over their own lives for the sake of your dumb memes. Shut this shit down when you see it.

"regardless of where one attributes blame" lmao

Me, going thru the last edits of my book: "It's hard to be motivated about this right now. If only someone were to be abruptly INCREDIBLY WRONG online, echoing the very narrative my entire book systematically disproves..."

The ungovernable response to ICE in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and elsewhere is strategic and effective. If you don't want Trump's mercenaries to kidnap your neighbors, you have to make it too risky for them to strike without the National Guard on hand. Resist. 🏴 crimethinc.com/LosAngelesJu...

I often think about Simondon’s point that the notion of ‘jobs’ in the sense of social roles distorts our understanding of ‘work’ in the sense of what is actually done in industry. I think it’s probably going to be useful for thinking about the social effects of the coming wave of AI deployment.

What we're gonna see now is the WaPo/NYT start holding the narrative that things are out of control even as every non-federal source says that's not true.

What do you call a protein component with a bad attitude? A-mean old acid.🧪

If you are in the mood to block some fucko, here's your quick satisfaction shot

California National Guard troops have arrived at the federal detention center in downtown Los Angeles. This is pure theater. It will never stop Angelenos from protesting ICE kidnappings occurring throughout the vast, 4,000-square mile area of Greater Los Angeles.

Everybody should have one of these piñatas

telling this to the commander as he shoots off every one of my toes one by one with his service pistol

The larger the protective escorts required to carry out operations in a hostile environment, the fewer operations they have resources to carry out at any given time.

My cartoon for this week’s @newscientist.com

Do not ever ever ever march into a tunnel. Don’t even go into a tunnel during a peaceful march (google Duisberg Love Parade 2010). Don’t go in tunnels. Tunnels are death.

Bringing back a classic

If you are going to a protest please protect your eyes. A very beloved and weathered journalist caught a “non lethal” munition in her eye and she later died of neurological complications from that same round. Protests should have an element of play but they also should be taken seriously

That’s terrible. What are their names so we can stop hurting them?

Oye kowmang

also that cultural left victories were more or less the result of people playing victim so that institutions would favor them instead of far more dedicated and persistent struggle only a very few have actually taken the time to understand us status451.com/2017/11/11/r...

“The Base, founded in 2018 by a former Pentagon contractor living in Russia and now suspected of Kremlin-sponsored espionage, once boasted close to 50 stateside members before the bureau made more than a dozen arrests in a years-long counter-terrorism operation.”

I am pleased to see we might have been so back since 2018. arxiv.org/abs/1806.024...

Why are these tacticool dudes all bunched up? Is that what they meant by increasing lethality?

i guess this beef is not getting squashed

Do not mind me, I'm just spinning in my skull as I see Urbit and anarcho-communism colliding
