Oh noooo you can't go? I'm sorry about that. We're going on Monday if I can figure out how to prevent a Belgian rail strike from affecting our travel plan...

Also wear them all the time to adjust more quickly. And move your eyes not your head as it's about looking through the right bit of the lenses for different distances (I have short/mid/long distance)

Can't help with online buying but varifocals - when I got them the optician said it takes longer to adjust, so give it up to 2 weeks (whereas normal glasses would normally take me 2-3 days max). I did adjust within that time frame but I know some people sttuggle

Congratulations! Well deserved

9. Book 9 was High Vaultage, an impulse buy (look at that great cover!). A fun and funny detective romp, the thing I liked best was the gaslamp steampunk world, so v happy to find out it's based on a podcast series called Victoriocity

Oh I'm glad to hear that. You are both in my thoughts

Oh no Lorna, thinking of you

8. Book 3 in the Dalemark Quartet and this time I really do mean The Spellcoats
comment in response to post
7. Correction! I read Drowned Ammet (book 2 of the Dalemark Quartet) as my 7th book, correct image but I called it "The Spellcoats" which is actually my book 8

Thank you so much, I have absolutely loved season 1 - I found it about 2 weeks ago and have listened to the whole thing (while re-reading the books I haven't read in the last couple of years). Super interesting, thought-provoking discussions

7. Book 2 of Diana Wynne Jones' Dalemark Quartet, The Spellcoats. I'm re-reading along with the brillant @eightdaysofdiana.bsky.social podcast, discussing every DWJ book in chronological order. Highly recommend (this and all the many DWJ episodes of The Dragon Babies podcast)!

The premise is very intriguing and scarily plausible

6. It's a shame the kindle cover is b&w as it has a very pretty cover, book 6 is Snow globe by Soyoung Park. The dystopian reality-tv premise is brilliant, though I didn't find the plot quite lived up to TT. Will definitely be reading book 2 in the duology

5. A re-read for a book competition km part of, but I was very happy to re-read as it's a lovely, cosy fave. Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree

I've been doing a full rewatch with my youngest (who is now somehow 13 and interested in politics) and there are so many moments that make you think about how times have changed....

4a. I pressed reply too quickly and forgot alt text, so it is a photo of a kindle cover for Agatha Christie's Five Little Pigs

4. Another re-read, for the #ReadChristie2025 challenge. This month is a book featuring an artist, so Five Little Pigs where I only vaguely remembered the solution

Great! I am a lapsed volunteer librarian, don't have it all set up on this phone or I'd have fixed it for you
comment in response to post
Yes! Love those! Just really enjoy all the different mythologies and cultures in those books and my youngest absolutely lapped them all up
comment in response to post
Put in a request/report, they have volunteer "librarians" who are usually v responsive at correcting info
comment in response to post
Of course! I just replied quickly but then scrolled through the rest of your replies and thought, oh yeah, loads of good stuff there and more UK based whereas my US-based reply maybe less what you wanted 😊

You've had loads of other great recommendations (Elle McNicoll, Robin Stevens,Gabby Hutchinson Crouch, Louie Stowell, Anna James, Jessica Townsend)

For a fan of Percy Jackson (I have one of those too) then I'd definitely recommend any of the Rick Riordan presents series, esp Aru Shah series or Sal and Gabi Break the Universe

I've been dealing with that feeling by re-reading stuff. Or MG books as they're usually fairly quick reads and non-depressing (if you know what I mean)

3. A re-listen to the audiobook of Cart and Cwidder while completing a Terry Pratchett jigsaw puzzle I got for Christmas. Diana Wynne Jones is always a comfort re-read
comment in response to post
2. Cressida Cowell's MG series are slightly bonkers in the best way. Which Way Round the Galaxy is a fun addition to this series, with a great bunch of kids and a weird and wonderful mix of magic and sci-fi
comment in response to post
Absolutely yes

Ah that's super lovely of you, thank you, but posting things from UK to EU (or at least to Belgium ime) is extremely fraught to the point we've kind of given up trying 😭
