Highly recommend this book for anyone working with children/YP who don’t do well with ‘demands’ - it’s also full of simple examples of how to put the strategies into practice in everyday contexts (plus it’s only £7:50 on Amazon!)

Well said! 👏👏👏👏

This is utterly dehumanising and it has to stop.

Read a few of these ‘Empty reviews’ recently. “over time, the discourse gets more meaningless and irrelevant to the actual work of applying all that we can know to accomplish that which is our discipline's social mandate” onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

I don’t think Open AAC has made it to BlueSky yet, but their 2025 “State of AAC” survey is now open & I enjoyed revisiting the report from 2024. #AugComm #ATchat #SLPeeps #BskySpeechies www.openaac.org/2024/02/13/s...

Useful blog post on goal setting for #GestaltLanguageProcessors #WeSpeechies www.meaningfulspeech.com/blog/nla-foc...

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Speech, Language and Communication Alliance today! As Alliance members, we're calling on the Government and policymakers to focus on speech, language and communication issues, ensuring the best outcomes for children and young people.

Finishing off my very first crotchet blanket but I can’t decide whether to keep the edge straight or continue with the bobbles? Do the final row in olive green or cream? Are there other/better options that I haven’t even thought of?! Any suggestions?

I don’t know what today’s new stitch is called but I love it!

Excellent advice!

To parents and carers of autistic children: What’s one piece of advice or information you wish you had known earlier in your parenting experience? I'm writing some materials for parents and I'd really like to include your wisdom (anonymously if you'd prefer) RTs appreciated🙏

This week I’ve crotched a (slightly wonky) mermaid blanket for my granddaughter, some granny squares for my mum’s cushion covers & today I learned the ‘ripple stitch’. Who knew crotchet was so addictive!! #Can’tStopCrotcheing

Autistic people have been telling us for years that ‘typical’ or demand-based approaches don’t help them understand or develop communication skills. Thank goodness the tide is finally turning! #GestaltLanguageProcessing Info/research/blogs, etc here: communicationdevelopmentcenter.com

Popped back into ‘the other place’ for the 1st time in ages & it didn’t take long before I was reminded why I left. It really is toxic over there…

Been working with teens excluded from school. All have #SEND (most commonly ASD/ADHD/DLD) but were either diagnosed too late or not even assessed until after they were excluded. It’s heartbreaking ‘81% of children with behavioural disorders have significant language difficulties’

Excellent new blog post from Marge Blanc explaining the importance of qualitative research & lived experience to understanding natural language development: www.meaningfulspeech.com/blog/nla-glp...

Excellent idea. It’s sad that it’s needed, but it’s still a service that’s obviously set up in a way that works for young people: qi.kentcht.nhs.uk/encouraging-...

🤣 The struggle is real!

I was introduced to crocheting a few months ago & I’m totally hooked! Just need some ideas about what to make next…

I'm doing a free giveaway to celebrate the publication of my latest book! Like and repost to enter (UK only). Winner announced on Sunday. See the link below to find out more about the book. #freebie #giveaway

Some people are just brilliant at explaining ND experiences like this 👏

Training a wonderful team of teachers & support staff today on affirmative methods of support for #GLP #NeuroDivergent pupils. Love my job 💜 #NHS #WeSpeechies #GestaltLanguageProcessing

This is an incredibly useful resource with info/examples on all #NLA stages, language sampling, sensory considerations, etc., plus sections on literacy & AAC. Highly recommend! #WeSpeechies #GestaltLanguageProcessing

It’s been a bit of a germ-fest here recently, but definitely worth it to get to spend Christmas with my gorgeous granddaughters. Being a Nanny really is the best 💜
