Enjoyed chatting with @johnpotterld.bsky.social and @hannahk-ld.bsky.social about May's mayoral election. Not long to go now.

Pleasure to attend a reception recognising the City of Hull and District Rugby League volunteers and sponsors this afternoon. I was asked to say a few words on what grassroots sports meant to me. I am a big believer in the benefit of sport, so pleased to be part of this event.

Budget full council. Lib Dem budget is working for the priorities of the residents of Hull. Yet again we are hearing how out of touch Labour are, criticising the hugely popular 'Love your neighbourhood' scheme that has made a difference in areas across the city.

A brilliant day celebrating Hull's cultural offering on the national stage.

Pleased to have backed this and look forward to hearing more from about the campaign soon. BBC News - Website aims to help young people eat healthier www.bbc.com/news/article...

Relief that there was no threat from the incident last night, but I am sure it was an alarming disruption for those involved. I would like to thank all those who responded, from the team at St Stephen's, emergency services, council teams and others. www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-ea...

Headed into BBC to do an interview for tonight's Look North with Peter Levy.

In Parliament today @tomgordonld.bsky.social questioned the Govt on funding for roads and infrastructure. The Govt admitted Hull and East Yorkshire will lose out on millions. This area has now been let down by both Labour and the Conservatives on this funding. Take a watch.

Visit today to see the Hull and East Yorkshire RSPCA branch. Thank you to Fred Owen and Matthew Wright for talking me through the work and challenges for the organisation across the region. Keen to see closer working between the council and the RSPCA going forward.

After news of delays to the A63 Castle Street project broke, I wrote to National Highways and the Government. Today I will be meeting with National Highways. I’ll be raising the concerns that have been raised by residents and businesses. www-hulldailymail-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.hull...

Catch my Politics North debut this morning at 10am on BBC1.

Today I attended the final University of Hull Winter graduation of this season. The University is the reason I am in this area and the foundations the place has given me has served me very well these last twenty plus years.

I have the Ferens Art Gallery as one of my favourite places in Hull, so enjoyed doing a piece for ITV local news there this morning.

New year, new challenge! This year sees one of my biggest challenges yet, as I seek to become the region's first metro mayor. This will be an incredibly busy time and I'm going to need lots of help. If you can help, please get in touch. Donations can be made here - www.libdemsinhull.org.uk.

Darts is the lead story on the BBC News app. Not often that's the case!

Great options for people who want to go out and socialise without feeling the need to always drink alcohol. Some great bars shown and listed in the article too 👏🏼

On Monday the government was saying there were too many politicians and proposing getting rid of councils. At the end of the week it is creating 30 new Labour peers. Maybe it is just elected politicians it doesn't like? www.bbc.com/news/article...

Lovely to meet the two children who designed the council's Christmas card this year. Incredibly impressed with their work! news.hull.gov.uk/19/12/2024/christmas-card-competition-winners-announced/

As leader of the council, I supported efforts to get 'bleed kits' fitted across the city. These kits can be used following an emergency where bleeding is involved. news.hull.gov.uk/18/12/2024/b...

Caught this new service yesterday to Leeds. All for improved rail services from Hull. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Much fun at the New Theatre panto this evening (oh yes it was!). Grab a ticket if you can. Laughs all the way through. My eldest was a big fan of Brendan Cole. Call it the strictly effect.

Quick visit to the Christmas exhibition showcasing neurodiverse and care experienced businesses. It is at the main entrance of the guildhall until 3.30pm today.

Managed to pop in and see the Hull City pop up exhibition at Central library. A nicely put together telling of the club's history. Pleased I was able to make this happen. Hopefully bigger one can follow. I know some would be keen to see a museum of sport in Hull. Wouldn't that be something?

While I understand the need to spend wisely and in line with priorities, there are real consequences to decisions like this that affect people up and down the country. BBC News - Stop non-priority spending, Treasury warns ministers - BBC News www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Very uplifting Carols service from Hull Vineyard tonight at Hull City Hall. Brought Christmas to life.

💜 Great news today! The fantastic HEY Volunteering has been awarded £200,000 grant funding from the Heritage Innovation Fund. Find out more here ⬇️

Never has a new government that promised so little managed to disappoint so much.

Ed Davey is currently number 5 in the Itunes chart!!!

Waking up to England doing well in the cricket and three Lib Dem by-election victories is not a bad start to the day.

Don't agree with a lot of what Andrea Jenkyns says, but I do agree when she says the Tory Party was now "beyond salvage". I don't, though, want to see her become mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. It's all the more reason to elect a Lib Dem mayor this side of the Humber. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ed Davey having a Christmas number 1 is not something I had imagined likely before, but these days anything is possible.

We absolutely must take communities with us as we accelerate the path to clean power. Not easy, but we will work hard at it at #GBE. My comments as presented at ##CBI24 yesterday 👇 www.independent.co.uk/business/gb-...

The Yorkshire Post covers the announcement of my candidacy and the fact we can win with this feature in today's edition.

Thanks @markpackuk.bsky.social for covering my selection. www.markpack.org.uk/173974/mike-...

I have some news. I have been selected to be the @libdems.org.uk candidate for mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire. Looking forward to the campaign ahead. This is a real opportunity for our region and want to get the best for our area. www.libdemsinhull.org.uk/news/article...

Enjoyable evening celebrating 200 years of the RSPCA, with an event in Hull. There's a local connection, with William Wilberforce being involved with the formation of the organisation. You got a real sense tonight of the important role the charity plays in the community.
