These are all great. My list would include
Out of the Cool - Gil Evans Orchestra
and
Out of the Afternoon - Roy Haynes Quartet

Not really a fan of compilations myself. But as a means to an end in fostering interest that could result in reissues it's pleasing

Oh go-on then Tubby, do your thing, it's still pretty coool. Vibes-led stuff always gives me a nostalgia rush. The house at the back when I was growing up used to play it all the time. Always thought it was probably Milt Jackson, but it could've been Tubby!

(He's playing pretty fast over the beat in this tbf)

Don't know if you've seen it, was on this doc I think. Some excellent clips: Tubby Hayes - A Man in a Hurry

Such great footage. An absolute blessing. I think I've seen Tubby play the flute fast too, and I liked it. Have you seen him play the vibes? Wasn't too sure he was as accomplished on that. Still, we can't all be geniuses at everything 😂

Doh! 😂 Well thanks Nicola, thanks Hannah!

Yes! Off the back of Blues in Trinity I believe. Presumably Tubby was in contention to take over from Hank Mobley before Wayne Shorter joined instead

It certainly is. Don't really associate him with ballads but Tubby had real chops and it shows. Can only presume they thought he should get his own track because of said chops

Aye, I'm getting paid more than you guys but do you mind if I just sit this one out? Dizzy still going at 94, must've been the extra rest 😂

Looks as though it could be quite entertaining. There's a Bill Evans biopic in production atm too

I have this too. It's a lovely thing

Martin Parr doing one of those "celebrity" singalongs with Frank Carson, some actors from the Bill, and a couple of newsreaders 🧐

Haha indeed! The two I was thinking of were Annie Leibowitz and Martin Parr but famous as they are, they aren't man-or-woman-on-the-street famous like Bailey was.

Ah! This is great intel. I bet Lord Snowdon was fumin when Bailey got that gig.

The simple act of taking a photograph in public during the era from the mid 60s (I presume) probably until the advent of camera phones would get you called David Bailey round our way. Sterling Moss evolved into Nigel Mansell but it was always David Bailey. Now it's not even a thing!
