When I published that blog, I didn't know I'd become social psych's Judas. Turns out questioning our field's methods is a great way to lose friends! I spent years plunged in a despondency. Ten years later, I'm still skeptical, just grayer and at peace. Come join my midlife crisis.

In this world of shrinking research budgets, academic layoffs and failing universities, Elsevier is still making an obscene profit. If anything has radicalised me to green it's these numbers. www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-worl...

Excited to see this now out in the world! We identify a computational basis for how persistent underconfidence is maintained in the face of intact performance, finding that it is grounded in impaired updating of global self-beliefs from local metacognition www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/N

Tomorrow marks the 3rd anniversary of Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. His forces bombed cities like Mariupol into rubble. Raped, tortured & murdered civilians. Targeted maternity & children's hospitals. I took this photo of one the mass graves - it contained 445 bodies in Izium (1/2)

Looks to be a great programme this year. Among the hands-on workshops we have the first international large scale collaboration Hackathon and a practical workshop offering advice and skills on how to be a good Expert Witness.

This Cybertruck did not crash. It made a heartfelt and perhaps ill-advised gesture that, in the moment, might have been misinterpreted as a crash, but we should not rush to judgement.

Interesting article on the benefits of Bluesky for academics. Personally, I'm very happy with Bluesky. I actually like that it's not algorithm fed etc, gives great opportunity for less "prominent" or established people to get into our streams. Could help diversify academic discussions.

I tried to clear my inbox before going on annual leave. It's full again, of course, but I'm convinced it's much better than it would have been! I must remember to set aside time before long holidays to crush the inbox

Honest question: will early academics understand theory and concepts at as deep a level with the advent of AI writing? Is there something lost when not creating written arguments and wrestling with ideas during the writing process? Or are we yelling at clouds? Thoughts?
