Amateur photographer. I'm here for my love of photography (& sometimes flying drones). Inactive for a long while, restarting in 2025. I need to be creating & capturing again.

Putting your photography watermark on AI slop 😖

Thought I would hate it, but I love it. Vertical space is precious.

A wonderful tribute, so sorry for your loss.

Cool gotcha, just cuts about 3/4 off max power so you have to have a pretty decent strobe to pull off daylight-darkness with a softbox. My NDs are pretty cheap and I haven't seen any sharpness hit.
So what's your dream lens?

Hopefully we'll also learn the obvious lesson that "inefficient" government is still far cheaper than privatization.

Did every early strobist own at least 1 CowboyStudio item at some point? I think so 😄

Yeah it was so great. Camera sales are something like 1/20th of their 2010 peak, but there was actually growth in 2024 so who knows. It'd still be fun with a small group.

Wow yeah for sure. I wish I had attended back then, too timid. I also still miss Photowalking Utah, and just vibrant local amateur/semi-pro photo community in general, so many solid gold people! The studio lighting photowalks solidified my complete fascination with OCF. flic.kr/p/9sMH87

#strobist info for fellow photo geeks:
* Sony a7 II, my trusty camera for years
* Sony 85/1.8 wide-open
* Flashpoint/Godox 600, 36" octa
* Flashpoint 200, 18" octa, -2â…“ stops. Subtle fill to counter black-hole shadows
* I shoot in TTL (gasp) but use flash exposure lock for consistency.

Logged in for the first time in a long time recently and the nags are insane. Activity details screen has **9** nags and an ad! Insane. $80/yr for useless AI crap and features that are free in every first-party device app? GTFO

As an introvert I have no idea why I'm drawn to portraits, but ended up enjoying the challenge. I've got about 50 shoots under my belt, still very much a beginner. I'm too deep in the tech side, with so much to learn in every other regard. Day job is demanding, so fitting it in as I can.

Camera-in-hand has always just felt right and I enjoy taking photos of all sorts, but I really want to get back into portraits & beauty. I love off-camera lighting. My amateur portfolio is truly ancient, not much added in the past 5 years, but here it is nonetheless: www.codysimsphotos.com/Portfolio
