Jesus christ, was I giving him ideas?

Being the only friend that knows how to be on time is a burden. But I will carry it

When we see streets as primarily space to move cars, we miss out on the wonderful places that streets can be. And our cities are much less successful for it. Rotenturmstraße’s before-&-after transformation in #Vienna via @birgithebein.bsky.social HT @liorsteinberg.bsky.social #StreetsForPeople

Day 1 and the news cycle is already mind blowing. Like out of the gateway and its "Insurrectionists pardoned" apnews.com/article/capi...

We live in a society. There are rules. Leash your dog unless you’re at the dog park, and don’t bring it into food service establishments.

according to IZA study - WA's housing shortage is 847k homes there are ~400,000 homes in seattle. and per microsoft's 2019 study, just in seattle we have a shortage of 194k affordable homes. i'd wager this number is pretty accurate. mayor's comp plan is only 110k homes docs.iza.org/dp15447.pdf

Frozen veggies. Dry beans. Basic seasoning and condiments. There is some prep but this can be the base for so much food that is healthy and low cost

This article is 109 years old. And we still aren't doing enough to act on climate change.

I'd love to have this. To just be able to go.

The Gaetz report is released:

Parking lots turn streets into miserable places to walk. New study finds that parking lots "negatively - and substantially - impact walkability; their objective walkability score is half that of other road segments." findingspress.org/article/1271...

The persuasive power of pie charts

in a little over 5 weeks, NASA's going to see the subsidence page scrubbed from its site. and it's governor doesn't think climate change is real. sealevel.nasa.gov/understandin...

Saw someone I respect suggest we should give DOGE a chance because maybe it will actually represent an earnest attempt to improve government efficiency. What is there to say except lol.

This website is amazing. It computes travel times to specified destinations and then provides a heatmap to the furthest of those destinations. If I was looking for a new place to live, this is the first stop I'd make to narrow down which neighborhoods I was interested in.

BREAKING: Amazon workers in NYC are going on strike right before Christmas—the company's busiest time. The first unionized Amazon warehouse is going to shut down in a historic walkout. Workers plan to hit the company where it hurts to win their first union contract. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI1k...

Americans owe $220 billion in medical debt, and health care costs are the number one cause of bankruptcy. Now states and local governments are canceling more and more medical debt. North Carolina is one state leading the way, aiming to cancel $4 billion. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

Priorities.

This is what we need to not do.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

The most striking aspect of this type of liberal meme is how america-core it is. Like basically maga-hat content but for liberals

Eerste Sweelinckstraat, Amsterdam: 1986 vs. today. All motor traffic has been removed, making space for pedestrians, cycle parking, trees, outdoor dining, and hopscotch!

Sending the 14 year old to the local Ace Hardware to do an errand for me. He grumbled until I said the words "you can ride your bike" and then his eyes lit up. This kids-being-independent-on-bikes thing is pretty freaking awesome.

This type of liberal political meme reaks so much of the same conservative maga-hat feelings. Like who in gods name is referencing mathematics for political rhetoric?

“Believe it or not, electric bikes offer more exercise than pedal bikes on average. That fact might sound strange, but the science is clear.” Why e-bikes actually give more exercise than “acoustic”bikes. (but both/either are excellent when it comes to better cities) electrek.co/2024/02/20/w...

This is like one of those "before" pictures showing the same street in Amsterdam in 1974 and today.

99% of the advice people give for using Bluesky amounts to “don’t willingly have a terrible experience”, and the messed up thing is that peoples experience online has gotten so bad they legitimately need to be reminded of that
