The Budget should include a massive and historic increase in funding for research. Not only is it needed, but we really should be poaching ever medical and scientific researcher from the US we can. Absolutely perfect timing.

The only reason "it's about the economy, stupid" rang true is because up until now, we've been able to take democracy for granted, more or less. Now we can't. It's going to be about democracy (but Trump's economy sucks too).

There *is* consistency here: both are vehicles of intimidation, demonstration of power and ego boosting. The actions are the point. Trump doesn't care about the eventual outcomes.
