Even as someone who feels the same about exploration as Greg, I really appreciate the aside about player preferences.

But who actually extracts it? And how much do they spend on "influencing" the government who contracts them? If companies control the government, isn't it still actually drilled by companies?
Of course it's not really binary anyways, it's a complicated mess, and different in each country.

Still no clue what your point is. I expressed that this is a place where communication is difficult, so quality persuasive speech is basically impossible. And I expressed that you seem to just be scolding me. This is all a perfect example of what I mean by the communication issues.

I wasn't being condescending.
If he already knew that (as in agreed with what I said) he wouldn't have made those posts so I have no idea what you're saying beyond what feels like finger wagging at me for disagreeing.

I'm not a constitution hyper because being one doesn't actually fight authoritarianism, and in fact unintentionally encourages it. GOOD critiques of it can help fight authoritarianism.
I desperately wish this was a medium where I could reasonably convince you of all that, but alas.

I like them all, but healer the most.
I think the biggest factor is that the healer perspective tends to be best for letting me learn what the group as a whole needs to do to win. Leading groups to joy and success is my passion.

I would call it "pursuit of truth," but curious how others think of it.

I'm not rational & am obsessed with being a victim because... I'm willing to point out the blatant corruption in the dem party?

Trying to sway people is not the same as pressuring them to shut up and fall in line. You're not trying to convince me at the very least. Enjoy your righteous indignation and rage. I have better things to do with my time.
comment in response to

You aren't merely criticizing. Your goal is to get people to fall in line. But this isn't about you. You don't have the power to force it.
Some in the party do, at least to an extent. And they certainly haven't shied away from doing so.

You are here right now, doing exactly what you say never happens. In a thread that seems to be related to the same sort of thing happening at a grander level. But sure, it never happens.
I am not the entire left. All I can say is what I did. Dems up & down, plus telling others to do the same.

"Always been allowed" by people doing everything just shy of out loud banning it sure.
Also you're assuming I didn't vote for Harris, but I did, and Clinton too in fact, and what did we get for it? A further shift to the right & appeasement of the rich.

"Why do you just constantly verbally condemn the establishment dems?!"

I find that the skilled ones are very good at seeming like what you describe, while not actually understanding the issues as in depth as they should. But they don't know that either and lots of people telling them they're so smart gives them further false confidence.

I wouldn't say you were ever lying about being a "leftist," but I have seen you include yourself in "the left" and I know what you mean by that but I could see others being confused.
Don't think I'd trust or care much about anyone taking a big issue with it like this though.

The more I learn about the world the more I see that capitalism's ability to "incentivize and coordinate effort toward problem solving" helps less than 1/10th the amount capitalism incentivizes harm. I'm no Marxist, but I see that capitalism doesn't need improvement, it needs to end.

Changing others, including what they want, is kind of your whole thing though. You do it every day. I believe you can do it here too.

Also trying to do it after midnight when that level of detail isn't even really important to me doesn't help either. Working for McKinsey and then talking about it the way he has afterwards is bad to me. And there's other stuff as I mentioned before.
comment in response to
post
I meant what he DID do (for McKinsey), not what he didn't do. It's really hard to be clear about things with such tight character limits. Also hard to keep all the info straight across multiple articles. I think I ended up more focused on the 2nd. And it's all rereading for me but from years ago.
comment in response to

According to what you linked and the other article it links to, the only source about what he did seems to be Pete himself.
Doesn't mean he was part of any price fixing. But working for McKinsey at all I find very troubling. Also the one you linked was a great reminder of his off putting responses.
comment in response to

Price fixing work for McKinsey. His anti medicare-for-all stance. Racism within the South Bend police force while he was mayor and his personal involvement. Those are the major ones I can recall off hand. That last one is a bit complicated but there's a great article at The Root about it.

If I run for public office or even simply become famous and try to influence public discourse you absolutely can and should look into my past yes.

Please look into Pete's past.
Not saying people can't change or anything. But I think it's worth knowing.

I completely agree.
Please everyone remember that being mean to people who are being cynical does not end the cynicism, if anything it often spreads it.
Don't wag your fingers or yell angrily at the cynical (including yourself). Recognize that they're hurting. Act with empathy, but pragmatically.

I'm guessing this is about some gaming site articles but not sure. Most mainstream gaming publications seem pretty lame and ignorable to me.
But it's still silly to treat the opinions of a group of people as an individual so you can call it contradictory...

If you assume we'll take all the money we in the US currently spend on healthcare and put it towards this goal, the extra money from this AI thing will let us expand Medicare to everyone in the US for... forever if I'm not mistaken. Though obviously that's a very different prospect.

Relatedly, any general purpose global chat that isn't EXTREMELY moderated will turn into a hate/troll dominated cesspit that will seep into other areas of the game.
Also, refusing to work with/promote jerk content creators helps a lot with fostering a good culture.

Alone you can't stop them. Together people can. The unknowns are just how many people are with you, what lines each will draw, and how far they'll go once crossed.
It's always hard to know what to do when so much is unknown. All we can do is try to push those unknowns in the directions we desire.

Is it so hard to imagine other solutions, why people would prefer them, and why they'd disagree on the viability/cost/benefit even if you think their analysis is wrong?
Seems odd to call it "just" X when so much is both at stake and difficult to analyze. I've seen experts on it disagree plenty.

This genre seems to be the entire strategy of some dem social media operatives. When people say the dems are bad at messaging I feel like these types are a big part of why.
I find it mostly creates divisiveness. And "numbers" obviously of course.

comment in response to

The vast majority in the US sure. But again, not even really the point. The point is that even if you 100% nailed the problem and solution and somehow there's no deeper underlying cause, the advice still isn't good because it won't get the people in question to do the thing, nor was it intended to.
comment in response to

For you that's true. Not everyone has your life. Maybe the economics are very different for them. Maybe they're off their meds atm and saying wild shit. The world is too big for me to know shit about their situation.
See how me explaining this concept you already know isn't helpful either?
comment in response to

But neither the actual problem nor solution were pointed to. As you said, they aren't broke. Someone gave bad advice because it let them feel smarter than some other people.
comment in response to
post
Indeed the problem likely isn't their income. The problem also isn't solved by just saying, "spend less" or "learn what per unit cost is." If were that easy they wouldn't have the problem.
comment in response to
post
You're just making up a bogus easy to defeat "example" here. That's the definition of strawmanning.
comment in response to

The problem is that it's a shit way of trying to give advice. "You're broke because you spend too much" has helped zero people out of poverty ever.

"in psychology, learned helplessness is a mental state in which someone feels unable to change or control a situation, even when they have the opportunity to do so"
That last bit is key. I'm not against advice. But you wouldn't tell an addict that the problem is they did a drug and should stop.

Fast fashion is awful. But I'm not gonna tell the people buying it that they ought to know better. That would be a silly waste of time at best.
