NPR reports that the RFK Jr.-led CDC has halted the "Wild to Mild" flu vaccination campaign that promotes flu shots by emphasizing their role in reducing symptoms and severe illness The decision to pull the campaign comes as flu hospitalizations hit a 15-year high, with 50,000 admissions in a week

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

Science did this

*Every single headline* about a scientific/medical advance right now should include the funding source I'm reading & discussing a bunch of papers w/ my class. I don't usually point out funders (almost always NIH/NSF/USDA for this class). You can bet your patooties I'm gonna do that from now on

Goosebump producing news this week out of Oregon Health and Science University in the diagnosis of pancreatic CA. They developed a groundbreaking blood test, called PAC-MANN. This new test can find pancreatic cancer in just 45 minutes, even in its earliest stages.

Solidarity is a word we all need to lean into hard and fast. We need to embrace an ethos of sticking together. We all get out of this together or none of us do, there is no other way.

What's the best state? JERSEY is the best state! Who wants to help @annikabarber.bsky.social and me organize the NJ Stand Up for Science rally? @standupforscience.bsky.social @booker.senate.gov @kim.senate.gov

Wealthy elites know that tax cuts for the super-rich are extremely unpopular. It’s why they try to distract us with scapegoats like immigrants, trans people, and a catch-all like DEI. Don’t fall for it.

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

Worst. Episode. EVER.

If you know any military leaders — from junior NCOs to 4-star generals — probably a good time to reinforce the idea with them that their oath is to the Constitution, not the President, and certainly not the Secretary of Defense.

BREAKING — States attorneys general lead by @newyorkstateag.bsky.social were just granted a preliminary injunction in their case against DOGE. The team cannot access Treasury Department payment systems or data while the lawsuit proceeds. Major.

Awesome:

Yo-we can't buy your products if you don't labor to reverse the funding freeze, and you'll have to close your plant in Mebane NC @milliporesigma.bsky.social @thermofishersci.bsky.social @sigmaaldrich.bsky.social

I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but the Federal Register block is intentionally being used to stop NIH from awarding grants. They might not call it a freeze, but things are effectively frozen. We need legal action ASAP.

They are telling us, out loud, exactly how the 2026/28 elections will not be free & fair. They will go after vote by mail (bsky.app/profile/mira...). They will go after computer voting. They will then say we can't count all the paper ballots because it's taking too long & there must be fraud. Etc.

This is an example of research that will save lives but would be blocked by the current administration:

Look people. Democrat? Republican? It doesn't matter. No one wants their wealth plundered by nazis. Push your members of Congress to impeach these motherfuckers and throw them prison.

I should revise this to say: the goal of the men and monied interests behind the coup is not just to loot and monetize the collapse of the United States. It’s to loot, collapse and capture the whole world. They are coming for the whole world. That’s what the sitch with Russia/Ukraine is teaching us.

In addition to Congress being the place that makes the laws, pretty key thing, the constitution explicitly says Congress gets to create the postal system. It’s not left implied that that comes under law making generally. The President has no power to unilaterally abolish it and move it to commerce.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

I feel so sick. Enough with the lies, enough with the games. They know exactly what they're doing. This is a neo-Nazi movement. Proudly so. The only reason they've kept it coded up until now was to take advantage of those who didn't want to believe it. No more looking away. Face up to what it is.

Unbelievable (and yet not):

Some of DOGE is retribution, some is corruption, some is incompetence, some is a mix of those, but this is destruction for destruction's sake. It's undermining American science, industry, and commerce just because they can.

They have the votes to impeach and convict him So they are not helpless They are complicit

The City of Boston is leading 40+ mayors, cities, and counties in an amicus brief against the Trump Administration's drastic and illegal cuts to federal research funding—cuts that will lead to immediate job losses nationwide.

Amazing letter - go to the link to read it all (especially the last page)

I agree, you don’t typically build an authoritarian regime by destroying state capacity. And you would want to maintain/gain support, & not piss off everybody. If, however, you think of it as an attack by Putin, that’s being perpetrated by Musk & Trump, it makes more sense.

Holy shit we must protect this man at all costs

Rep. Crockett is the best

BREAKING — I've confirmed the DOGE staffers at SSA. They are Marko Elez (who was previously fired for racist posts and then reinstated), Ethan Shaotran, Nikhil Rajpal, and Gautier Cole-Killian. This is per Social Security Works, a non-profit working to protect/expand Social Security.

New — Edward "Big Balls" Coristine of DOGE now has digital access to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), an agency source has confirmed to me.

I appreciate everyone’s messages of support, I’m trying to get through all my mentions but as you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a busy day :) Remember - peaceful civil disobedience, and no kings, no tyrants. Not ever.
