Breaking it, then profiting off the *fix* The same way they profit off of education privatization… health care… etc… They count on you not realizing it. You are their piggy bank.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

FTP had our monthly meeting yesterday and I am so happy about our current work and what's the come. ALSO, I hope that more progressives and leftists are planning to run for or seek appointment to your local library boards. Seriously get on this.

“As a transgender teacher who works both within CPS and the union, I have witnessed the impact of gender-affirming care in my school community and others. When students feel loved and supported by their teachers and their communities, they do better in school and in life.” bit.ly/4i4Xc00

#SchoolLibrarians have been sounding the alarm about book banning. Now our government is the enemy, censoring books, criminalizing librarians, & closing libraries. There is more than one way to ban a book. @ctulibrarians.bsky.social& @ctulocal1.bsky.social will fight for the freedom to read.

Gov. Pritzker…”My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America — and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one,” he said. “I am not speaking up in service to my ambitions — but in deference to my ⭐️obligations⭐️.” www.chicagotribune.com/2025/02/19/g...

Red States are criminalizing school librarians to try and eliminate access to diverse books. @chipubschools.bsky.social already did that by cutting library positions. @ctulocal1.bsky.social wants a contract that returns a librarian to every school & protects students’ freedom to read.

I need everyone to know that the "feels like" temperature rn in Chicago is -26 so the idea that anyone out here is a bigtime demonstration

Pedro Martinez & @chipubschools.bsky.social STILL have not addressed the librarian crisis in CPS. Every student deserves a school librarian! www.audacy.com/wbbm780/news...

LFG Santa Rosa. This is how we do it.

Book bans impact public libraries & bookstores, but it’s school libraries where they are rampant ❤️‍🩹 Many kids are unable to make it to the public library. They can’t drive, often times the library isn’t in walking distance. It’s not that their grown-ups don’t want them to be library kids. 🧵 1/11

A librarian in every school. A nurse in every school. Safe drinking water in every school. These aren’t ‘extras’—they’re the basics. Our contract fight is about raising the floor for ALL students.

That’s more like it.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

The Department of Defense is targeting libraries and schools and blacklisting people and ideas it deems ‘dangerous’.

Sometimes we are blessed with being able to choose the time, and the arena, and the manner of our revolution, but more usually we must do battle where we are standing - Audre Lorde wordinblack.com/2025/02/chic...

CPS used student based budgeting to cut librarians. @ctulocal1.bsky.social wants to return librarians to every school, & even the Fact Finder agrees!

This is your reminder to USE YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY THERE'S BOOKS THERE AND MOVIES MUSIC PUBLIC COMPUTERS W/ INTERNET IT'S ALSO FREE

Reposting with alt text: Re-upping this. We need experts in media literacy & stewards of the freedom to read now more than ever.

Re-upping this. We need experts in media literacy & stewards of the freedom to read now more than ever.

Even the fact finder agrees that we need to staff schools with librarians and our new contract should reflect that 🔥 www.wbez.org/education/20...

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜 The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization. Enter Dorothy B. Porter 🧵

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942. I know. I was there in those camps.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has announced that it is arbitrarily dismissing student and parent complaints arising out of public schools’ documented acts of censorship and discrimination. Our response: Book bans are real. Full statement ➡️ www.ala.org/news/2025/01...

Dems need to listen to librarians at this conference. As a collective they’re saying do not comply. Fuck bipartisanship

If you ever find yourself losing faith in people, or wondering “do people even CARE anymore?!”, visit your local library. I say this without hyperbole, I am always struck by how much librarians care, every time I’m there. Always helping. Always tending. Always reaching out. We owe them so much. 💙

“The Librarians doesn’t aim to be a page-turner, just that we still have pages to turn. Reminding us that the freedom to read, learn, and think critically is not a guarantee. It must be fought for.” inbetweendrafts.com/the-libraria...

I went to the library yesterday. Libraries are centers of revolution. Visit and support yours.

This statement is full of lies and propaganda. The DOE is fully part of a fascist state now, using it's power to ban books and suppress knowledge. It's now the Ministry of Education and we all need to be clear eyed about that. www.ed.gov/about/news/p...

Budgets reflect priorities. CPS needs to prioritize school librarians to ensure students understand media literacy and can access information in this age of increasing propaganda & data manipulation.

It is such a deep and profound failure that we make our teachers protect kids against ICE, be willing to give their lives on the job, and also fight with the city just to get librarians in schools ... all while also having to do the core job of teaching!!!

"It is time to move from awareness to action" -Cindy Hohl. Take action to support libraries! Call you school board member and tell them to return certified librarians to every school in Chicago. Every student deserves a school librarian <3

Everything that's undone can be built up but much more radically and expansively.

Libraries & librarians have never been more important. If we care about the future, we must make sure every school, every community, every child has access to a library & a librarian. And we have to give them all our support, so they can do their vital work, which benefits us ALL! #SaveLibraries

School librarians provide access to information. Why won’t CPS support librarians for ALL students in Chicago? Who benefits from limiting access to info for marginalized students? 🤔 @ctulocal1.bsky.social is bargaining to return a librarian to every school. knowledgequest.aasl.org/navigating-c...

None of this reduces the price of anything.
