That door knocker looks even more eerie in black and white.

I find this shocking. A few years ago it looked like his career was coming to an end and all of sudden he's passing Gretzky...and all this during an era when goal scoring is down.

The one benefit they had was how long it was going to take until they reached the point they needed to build the dome. Today, unless it Sagrada Familia, nothing takes more than a year, maybe 2, to build. #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts

The chaos we'd experience at the airport if every airline used their own time π

Yeah, it's insane. I get frustrated dealing with timezones when I'm programming but this is simple compared to what things were like before timezones and standard time.

Birthplace of Raphael. It was ruled by Federico da Montefeltro who was a mercenary and your quintessential Renaissance Man. All the greats went to his court #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts

A month in Florence would be amazing. What time of year were you there?

I'm sure most of it was not appreciated at the time. If I was a peasant, I would have been one of the people saying that's great that you spent all this money to paint a wall in church or put a statue in the square but we're all starving out here.

π―I love that they started it without knowing how to build the dome nor having the tools/expertise/knowledge to do it. Someone will eventual come along with a solution π

It was worth seeing but not something you should feel you need to seek out. It's not disappointing like the Mona Lisa but not as a great as seeing the Sistine Chapel.

Maybe, there were likely more opportunities that came from growth in architecture and buildings even if it was hard manual labor. Education and medical advances probably trickled down but still stayed at an elite level so yeah, the peasants probably saw some minor benefits but not much.

Likening this to the world today, I'm jealous of this time period. It's like the age of the internet 30 years ago when anything seemed possible and everyone was excited about the future. I miss this feeling and inspiring environment.

These massive dams are impressive. It's another marvel I have a hard time wrapping my head around the engineering needed to pull this off.

The people that worked on this must have been insane. I'm not afraid of heights but this is on another level.

The Millau Viaduct is so impressive. Just the fact that its tallest mast is taller than the Eiffel Tower! Mind blowing! Seeing it from above and below are equally amazing: velvetescape.com/visit-millau...

Could be but I find what I appreciate most in many of these sites is what had to be overcome from a technology perspective. Several generations from now, what we have now will seem simple. Or, AI will have destroyed everything by then π

That's a good one. I remember walking around the city thinking the same thing. You'd have to be really dedicated to this project given the perfectly solid land you could be using nearby. #TravelAddictsHistory #TravelAddicts
