443 years ago, on the 21st of June 1582, Akechi Mitsuhide drove Oda Nobunaga to commit suicide amidst an unexpected coup by the former vassal. The Honnō-ji Incident ended Nobunaga’s campaign to unify Japan. Mitsuhide’s motives are still unclear. He died on July 2nd of the same year.
