“The FBI is moving to criminalize groups like Habitat for Humanity for receiving grants from the Environmental Protection Agency under the Biden administration.” Depraved bullshit continues. newrepublic.com/post/192660/...

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up. Tomorrow is the cloture vote. KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️ Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill. Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.

everyone getting vocal and yelling at chuck schumer and the rest of the senate democrats made them back off (for now). i’m not a huge fan of his framing here, but this proves we need to keep yelling at them endlessly to continue this pressure for them to be a remotely useful opposition party

its just comically bad out here

Huh

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel says it is cutting off its electricity supply to Gaza.

Rep. Al Green is a goddamn hero.

Crowds are massive in Silver Spring, Maryland…the home of NOAA. People chanting, “Save NOAA Now!” and “We will not weather the storm.” Make your voices heard and keep it up. #NOAA #NWS Severe Weather is on its Way. And so is hurricane season. 🌀 🧪

March 2-3rd, 2020: An outbreak of 15 tornadoes struck the Southern US. Ten of the tornadoes were spawned by a cyclic supercell in Tennessee. An EF3 tornado killed five people and caused $1.5 billion in damage, devastating parts of the Nashville metropolitan area. (1/2)

world historically funny how fast this turned from “ugly truck” to “nationwide object of derision and target of anger” and we are just getting started

Trump says protesters will be imprisoned, and “NO MASKS!”

ahhhhhhhhhh

“My app has radar data, everything should be fine!” Fun Fact: The National Weather Service operates 122 of the 160 NEXRAD radars across the United States, providing free data to users through popular radar applications. In addition to other services, this is funded for ~$4 annually per taxpayer.

question for the class: i got my scheduled measles vaccine but should i be getting another now to bolster immunity or

Well, another hit to the wildland fire community today. NWS folks fired include meteorologists who provide spot forecasts from local offices, work at the Emergency Ops Center, help us understand climate trends, and serve as Incident Meteorologists on large fires. 1/

Just a reminder that Trump’s DOJ just dropped a criminal fraud investigation into Ogles, including allegations that he used a photo of his stillborn child to raise tens of thousands of dollars for a burial garden for children that was never built. He has never accounted for that money.

The hammer fell on NOAA/NWS this afternoon. 😭💔 There were no exceptions. All probationary employees.

I am now hearing from multiple folks in the past two hours (including some who have personally been fired) that mass firings have now commenced within NOAA--including, yes, at the National Weather Service.

NOAA is the backbone of the US weather enterprise. The rest of the enterprise needs to step up. Support the folks who lost their jobs. Support the communities who lost NOAA personnel. Boost the efforts of the NWS that remains as we get into severe and hurricane season.

I am so sick to my stomach knowing that so many dedicated, hardworking, and knowledgeable NOAA employees and colleagues were let go today. Awful. Please do not hesitate to reach out or message me. I’m here with you in this fight.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center: They are responsible for the development and implementation of more than 20 numerical prediction systems — transitioning these systems into operations for National Weather Service, with the goal of expanding that reach to the broader meteorology community.

The talent pool that is being lost within NOAA is immeasurable - some of the best and brightest that have dedicated their lives to the betterment of society and service to others The people and the mission were way more important than any paycheck So incredibly saddened for so many

The senselessness of the cuts this administration is doing is unbelievable. All so that the insanely rich and powerful can maintain it. To my NOAA friends (and all you dedicated civil servants) I’m so sorry. (Also, I know I may end up joining you eventually).

I just got fired from NWS . This email is all I know. Read if you want.

BREAKING: At least one California weather service office was impacted by Thursday's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration firings, a source told the Chronicle. Employees were told terminations would go into effect Thursday evening. www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...

heartbroken for all of the noaa employees who dedicated their lives to the service of protecting others only to get the rug pulled out from under them. when they were already understaffed and overworked. fucking hell

Welp, I too was one of the NWS probationary folks that got terminated today. 8 years as an AWIPS contractor previously, I finally got the Fed job I had been wanting. Worked on implementing the next generation of capabilities for AWIPS. A lot of promising stuff coming that is now up in the air...

This, concurrent with the destruction of PEPFAR, which serves many similar functions for global HIV control, is a recipe for catastrophic drug resistance taking root and becoming widespread for both, often in the same patients and places. It is a horror, and will have *permanent* consequences.

This is a genuine betrayal of humanity at large. The war against HIV and TB -- diseases that have claimed countless lives -- have been hard fought. We've managed to get both on the ropes. And now the death cultists mean to see them come roaring back

People laughed a few days ago when @jamellebouie.net said we might not have flu shots next year, but:

I rely on the NWS. I need their expertise to plan prescribed fires, adjust staffing plans during fire season, and IMETs who join us on large fires throughout the fire season. Shrinking their budget and staff directly affects nearly all aspects of wildland fire management.

Sending an email to employees asking them to list five things they did that week is a classic move from a manager who has no idea how to manage
