In January 2025 nearly 1500 *drivers* were injured and 2 killed in car accidents in NYC, according to https://www.nyc.gov/assets/nypd/downloads/pdf/traffic_data/cityacc.pdf
Add in passengers, pedestrians and cyclists and it seems like getting off the streets in NYC is the safer option.
Though with traffic speeds about to drop...
"We will allow tourism", lol Trump just shat on the 2 countries that brings 50% of foreign tourism, Russians are broke so I don't think they're gonna pick up the slack.
Visited NYC 2 years ago. Great town. Friendly people. The subway was terrific. When we looked lost (ok we were lost) people stopped & offered directions. One woman paid for our ferry ride. We felt safer in NYC than we would visiting the White House. More felons per capita there.
A statistical failure a lot of people are vulnerable to is worrying about crime on trains without considering that they are far more likely to be injured or sustain monetary loss in a car crash
We were going to Chicago this summer. Bucket list to go to Wrigley. Alas, no travel to the states for a while. Canceled the travel. Now just have to get rid of the tickets. Is it usually sold out?
Since the Cubs won the World Series, I just know it's WAY more expensive. But I may be spoiled by being a child of divorce whose dad lived right by it when it was really cheap.
Hope when things are sane again, you'll come here. We love visitors, most of us.
I know. It was a Christmas gift to my husband. Cubs vs KC and Red Sox vs Dodgers. Also, the train between. Oh well, sometimes things just don't work out.
Is this a consequence of more "normies" riding public transportation and basically pushing out criminals? Or just too many eyes now and they just aren't criming?
These people just lie about everything. There is no great threat, except for them, to our country and its cities. In fact, in the immediate years before, we were doing better than we did during most our history before Trump took over.
Hopefully some ridership behaviors will stick despite the reversal. This is evidence that congestion pricing works. A way that NYC could bring some form of this toll back would be by converting existing lanes into commercial vehicle only lanes & otherwise discouraging driving.
New York sees over 60 million tourists each year. And the number increases regularly. Habba's job is to lie for her boss in public, so I'd take anything she says with a huge grain of salt.
Again with the not for thee but for me. They can tell anyone what to do but if you suggest anything else, they will stomp their feet and say no, ie healthy eating, wearing masks, vaccines. They don’t care if data shows it’s good for you. They are toddlers who just say no ALL the time!
A painfully obvious thing to expect for anyone who’s read Jane Jacobs or like any writing & research about urban planning written in the last 30 years. Utilized spaces, eyes on street, do more to reduce crime than policing. More everyday people using trains is going to be safer trains.
You know what's funny? I kept hearing about the Costal Elites, and how they think LA and NYC are the entire country and ignore everything in between, and how Trump was the antidote to that... And yet here he is, President of the entire United fucking States, and he's obsessing over NYC road taxes.
While I'm a supporter of congestion pricing, there are also the overnight cops now, and an increase in overall police presence. It's likely a combination of both.
London city centre has improved dramatically since congestion charging was introduced. Walked for several hours around the city on Tuesday - the air was fresh, the traffic light and the ambience welcoming. I don't think many would want the bad old days back.
I walked from Liverpool Street Station to the British Museum, down to Drury Lane then back to Liverpool Street. It gave me a chance to enjoy the architecture, spot a Banksy, find a quiet restaurant (& cheaper than Covent Garden, obvs) sample a bun at Fortitude bakery & get some Vitamin D.
I really appreciate that, not because I'm nosy, but because I look forward to a London visit and you have given me a quiet route for a Sunday perhaps. Many thanks.
Visited NYC last May. Yes, I was a tourist. Learned to use the subway & appreciated it (little public transport in my area).Happy not to have had a vehicle to deal with! This is laughable considering her hsb is ceo of ny based parking management comp. And who is the "we" she refers to?
The way they can separate a "safe" New York from an "unsafe" subway. Like the subways aren't a core element of the city. Clearly people saying this have never actually been on the subways or experienced New York like 90 percent of everyone else who lives there
Most infuriating thing is these hacks think that everything is shit until they put their slimy "fix" on it. What an insult to everyday people that work hard to keep things running in this country. The only thing they have proven they will do is make things exponentially worse.
His personal animus against a city that he will never be accepted by because he is tacky and gauche and they are cool and fun, and his very specific grudge against people whose success and happiness he sees as a personal insult.
Was going to ask this. I've seen the argument made that more regular people kind of push out the people who cause trouble (I assume because a lot of crime occurs on relatively empty cars). But I would love to see some data on this.
Yeah I was thinking it being busier made crime less possible somehow but that honestly doesn't seem like that much of a deterrent. Will be curious to follow for sure
PASS IT ON: TRUMP IS A FILTHY , BASTARD, CRIMINAL TRAITOR ALLOWED TO RAPE, PILLAGE AND TERRORIZE AMERICA BY A COWARDLY, COMPLICIT REPUBLICAN PARTY.
WHO AMONG US IS BRAVE ENOUGH TO RID US OF THIS SCURRILOUS SCOURGE?
I mean, Alina Habba is famously a dumb cunt, so I wouldn't really think anyone should take her advice or word on anything, but then again we live in Trump's America so I guess what I'm saying is I hope she gets murdered in a Subway...sandwich store
I'm betting if Habba was a permanent fixture in the NY subway system she'd draw all the criminals away from regular law-abiding citizens like rats to stinky cheese. Then we could be more green AND stop hearing from her trashy mouth!
Their idea of safety appears to be locking yourself in your car while you hyperventilate from seeing brown people cross the street, going out on a limb here but maybe this isn't the substance of an urban renaissance
Well, it seems that immigration wasn’t the only area of city governance that Adams gave over to the White House in their deal. Sounds like they think they can run the WHOLE city themselves now.

She really loves collagen sticks!!!!🤣😅😂
Want to make housing and transportation more efficient, things safer, tackle cost of living, the world healthier…

It's like when people shit on L.A. It's just fucking idiocy.
These places are literally some of the top cities IN THE WORLD by EVERY measure.
Habba is as dumb as she is useless.
But then, that's what Elon is for, I suppose.
Please?

As usual, he's full of hot air.
He doesn't have the power-unless we give it to him.

Reminds me of the adage, the best fertilizer is the gardeners footsteps.
I think she has caught Trump's dementia.
Tourists aren't going to drive into the city in the majority of cases.
Many have praised congestion pricing for the short time it was implemented.
Definitely a cool and seemingly well documented happening, but what could possibly be the causality here?
Yeah, saw her on the 1 to Union Square the other day…
NOT.
WHO AMONG US IS BRAVE ENOUGH TO RID US OF THIS SCURRILOUS SCOURGE?
That's an order

… what’s that? They don’t care about facts and never will? This is the bad place? Well, shoot.
I made the mistake of driving into lower M in the morning once. Never again...
I made the 2nd mistake of taking a SHARED Uber once from Astoria to the same area. Took 45 min & $45... subway was 30 min & $2.75... (it's 2.90 now).
And guess who's husband owns parking garages...? 😃
That's interesting.
Maybe Alina Habba yearns for 42nd Street porn row, destitute Harlem and a bankrupt city.
