Is this a Dub thing? No such phrase exists up here. Then again, itās colder up here so we rarely get urges of any kind.

Things I learned today.
Although, to be honest, I donāt think folks from where Iām from will consider visiting the US for the foreseeable. Because of the beans, *obviously.* All that orange, unexpectedly reeking of pig.

They contain what?? *Rushes to check*
I think this must be a thing outside of the UK and Ireland. I bloody hope so. We tend to think of baked beans as vegan by default. But I shall be on the lookout henceforth.
Not that Iām vegetarian, even, but I pride myself on being picky.

Iām 50 years old. There is a private greyhound track in a town 26 minutes drive from me. Not only have I never known of its existence, until searching now, Iāve never been to any such track in Ireland. I didnāt even know we were, as a nation, remotely interested in this. For FIFTY years. Irish life?

āFirst they came for the trans kids, and I wondered how I could cozy up and get me a position in this, 'they,' specifically so I could negotiate an exemption for my kid, when they came for them, under the table, where these guys love to make their deals, thatās a lot less risky than opposition.ā š

I am put in mind of the great Hannah Gadsby, when writing their show Nanette. All hail not being the butt of oneās own joke.

Maybe better to ask why the post-war belief that weāre all still waiting on money being, āsent home from Americaā to have enough to survive on is still so dominant in the social consciousness?

True, but you can see whyāas villainsāour interest in any prospective prey is fairly intense. And we bite US in the neck. Never said it was laudable, just answering your question of why weād care in the first place.

Thatās part of it. Alongside that, in 2024, the US bought roughly $72B of stuff from us and we bought $22B of stuff from them. Weāre watching a greedy maniac find ways to starve us of that $50B from our own economy, no matter what good or evil use that money is put to once we have it from them.
