The fact that so many public schools still lack air conditioning feels like a moral failure. (Also, bureaucratic failure, political failure, messaging failure, etc).

You won't learn to write well unless you read a lot

Oh, the prompt was: "Show your age with a vague benchmark," or something.

My father's neighborhood had a "rag man," who went up and down the streets in a horse drawn carriage, selling rags. My dad, who was six or seven at the time, got in bad trouble for putting a piece of long grass in the horse's nostril.

I also learned that Frank Sinatra once rhymed, "For Heaven rest us/ I am not asbestos." (Technically I guess it was Oscar Hammerstein and Dorothy Fields who did the original rhyming).

Learning a lot this week as I teach a 40 hour course to unionized construction workers. "You don't want to get two checks today" = don't do anything to get fired. "Must be the shop steward" = the guy who is most attentive to when lunch time starts. "If you're not in a hurry, you're behind."

It would be great if the < passport clerk > at the post Office agreed with me that my son’s birth certificate is proof of US citizenship. < screams in bureaucracy > . That was wild

Damn brilliant ad by World Wildlife Fund. It's just the perfect mix of context and humour.

This is all I can muster this morning, not that anyone asked: "All of this has happened before; All of this will happen again." Imagine the person saying this is very, very exhausted and glum.

I have an Ego brand electric lawn mower. I had to call customer service. Here's how one of the automated voice menus end: "For any other problem you're having with your Ego, press 2."
