Well gee, I bet if they demanded accountability of actual ICE agents, they'd: 1. catch more fakes and 2. discourage people from trying pretend to be ICE for personal gain and 3. discourage ICE from being the shady fucks they're already being Win:win:win, if you ask me.

I imagine "Mountain Sun" getting embarrassed when they meet someone else from her culture and proactively assuring them that it's just a nickname, and she'd never presume to call herself that if not for the linguistic inadequacies of her companions.

I sometimes go onto StackExchange and similar to get help with PS code, and you can always tell the AI-gen stuff. It'll be 15 lines of code, most of which I'll scrap and pull out the 1-2 lines I actually needed; assuming it ends up doing what I want it to at all.

Did you blow her mind by informing her that there were trans kids, or kids with gay parents, or bi friends or a lesbian aunt? Children shouldn't be exposed to sex of any variety until they're older, but LGBTQ+ *people* are everywhere and that should be normalized early and often.

I heard Five Finger Death Punch playing in the lobby of the children's dentist I was at yesterday. Life is strange.

...even counting the various authorized variations and special duty uniforms (flightsuits/CVCs, desert camo, fire-retardant variations, and like half a dozen other dress uniforms like mess dress, dress whites, etc)

That's a little rapid, but not as much as you might think... In 25 years of military service, I've worn 3 different PT uniforms, 3 different duty uniforms and 2 different dress uniforms (there was a third dress uniform was coming in right as I retired and I refused to get a set) That's not.. (1/2)

I can't say I enjoyed it, based on the subject, but there were some great lines: "A wave buffeted him, no need for rocks to rend his body, and he was thrust under and then raised, the bounty of a trebuchet of aquamarine." ...was one that grabbed me, in particular.

I did! I did know, it's just been so long since I've been part of the community that I got it mixed up.

...and in case it's not clear, this is meant as a compliment.

"weird kinky fuck" should be in your bio. It's not the whole of you by any means, but it's a pretty decent summary.

I've been too long out of the indie sphere... I was certain for a long minute that Apocalypse World was a Bully Pulpit game until I read this and I was like "Oh, right. I knew that."

But if the farmers don't get paid, how are big companies going to edge them out and buy up their properties to consolidate even more wealth and control in the hands of the billionaires? Think of the billionaires, Meg.

Of course. It's *always* the badgers.

A buddy of mine in Basic Training created an RPG where the randomization was a grid of scoped random numbers; the player picked the X axis, and the GM picked the Y, and the number result was in the box where those picks intersected. I hope I explained that well, it works better with pictures.

Maybe you don't get invited to the right types of formal events, then.

He's not going to resign, of course. It's become a oft-repeated refrain: the cruelty is the point. This wasn't tone-deafness, he said exactly what he meant to say, because the current regime gives him permission to publicly be the terrible human that he actually is inside. Miss you on TikTok btw.

This is an idea a lot of people fail to understand. We pretend that 'worth' or 'value' are determined by the seller, but the fact is, they've always been set by the buyer. The effort, time, skill and pain put into something means little to the price unless someone is willing to pay for it.

"...responsible journalists have to pretend there's always two sides to this" No they don't. RESPONSIBLE journalists should never pretend anything. Their job is to report and expose truth, not platform lies and make-believe. This is why many folks are turning to citizen journalism over traditional.

Anyone who's ever played Pathfinder and used a hero point to reroll a Nat 1 knows "rare" is relative.

This is probably the wrong thing to say out loud, but my first thought on reading that last line was "Be the charge you want to see in the world" Please don't hate me.

This looks like "standby for orders" posture, where they're all ready to get up and move once orders come down. If they were resting for the night, they would have removed boots and blouses at least.

To be fair, this isn't too far off what a well-planned an executed operation would look like. These Soldiers should all have field gear already issued, and likely aren't using it because this isn't the time to break out the "snivel gear"

It absolutely would, but I would NOT want to be the guy who ended up being responsible. Even without Trump's vindictiveness, someone would be in serious hot water. Suffice to say, I don't think it'll happen. They'll have done ALL of the PMCS on the vehicles before this shitshow.
comment in response to post
Oh no, Trump is ignoring the law. This is totally unprecedented in all of the months he's been president. Maybe someone should, I dunno, arrest him or something? isn't that what you're supposed to do with criminals and lawbreakers?

If you have power and the will to use it ethically, DO NOT FUCKING RESIGN. Make them fire you if they will, but resignation is cowardice.

I can't tell what you're referring to. Your references are far too subtle. I also really enjoyed Skeleton Crew. Silly, definitely aimed at kids (duh) but still pretty good with a worthwhile ending.

on the loyalty front. The people we're relying on to save us from the evil are vastly less evil, but they're still not loyal; to each other, to their ideals, and certainly not to us. That's how you tell real life from stories. Evil is real, but good is... less so. It's smaller, more fragile.

red because it's 'so good' you somehow think it'll change my tastebuds. I'm going to be clear that my recommendations may not suit your palate if you don't like sweet. I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I guess I just think we'd all be happier if we all just let everyone like what they like.

but I have nothing against those who are enthusiastic enough about wine that they do. I'll recommend my favorites to folks, and not be offended if they don't like them, and I'll be clear about my preferences, so people can make recommendations with those in mind... but don't recommend me a dry 5/?

I'm a casual wine drinker. I like sweet reds and whites, and wine-adjacent drinks like ciders and meads, so long as they're sweet. $10-15/bottle's the "good stuff" but I'll drink boxed wine if it tastes good. I'm never going to swirl it around and talk about "notes of plum and earthy undertones" 4/?

amazing and expensive wine can be dogshit, so drink it if you like it, don't if you don't, but don't pretend either choice makes you somehow better, for whatever value of better you want to use, than people who make different choices, even if they're drinking something you think is swill 3/?
comment in response to post
wine is something only wine snobs do. Wine is fucking fermented grape juice people, and the cheapest wine today still undergoes complex processes. The most expensive wine is usually expensive due more to artificial scarcity and status-signaling than any real measure of quality. Cheap wine can be 2/?

I mean, all Dungeon Masters are Game Masters, but not all Game Masters are Dungeon Masters. The GM Venn is bigger and fully inclusive of the DM Venn, and therefore is sovereign. Where do I pick up my Political Science diploma?
