Sometimes I wonder if part of the big issue with representative government is that well adjuated people, by and large, dont want to upend their lives to pursue positions of power.

The "we need to welcome disgruntled Trump supporters" push needs to be understood not as outreach (90% of those spouting it won't ever do any) but as trying to find an excuse to ditch the people most in danger to appease conservatives. This is a very real problem. It's a major reason we got here.
