Raskin: This is a gangster state. This is not basically a legitimate government that is sometimes doing corrupt things. This is an essentially corrupt enterprise. It's like watching The Sopranos. Every day, they get up and they try to figure out how to plunder and pillage the people

Cryptocurrency is all about corruption, fraud, money laundering and tax avoidance. And almost nothing else. Change my mind! (With reasoned argument and hard data—not wild invective.)

While Robert Jenrick MP spends his days wandering about the underground tackling fare dodgers and going on about the capital for clicks... his constituency has a genuine problem. ● Newark crime rate: 123 crimes per 1,000 ● London 105.8 per 1,000 But you know... "Sadiq"

"Trump and his allies… are fighting a war for the future insofar as this means the narrowing of our moral horizons for the sake of unleashing certain energies tied to hierarchies of race, gender and sexuality." www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/o...

Guys, it's the oligarchs. If you want to blame someone for 2024, blame the oligarchs. Anyone telling you to blame someone else is part of the oligarchy. Dark money has been to blame since citizens united.

Of course they find Bluesky annoying and uninviting. They spend most of their time in spaces that are awash in cognitive dissonance. Every morning, they wake up knowing they'll have to cover a sociopath whilst pretending he's not a sociopath. Most spaces enable that bet hedging. Bluesky doesn't.

Morning Bluesky. This was mentioned last night, but I’m posting again because I think it’s important: I’d honestly ask everyone to read The Sovereign Individual by William Rees-Mogg and James Dale Davidson because it completely explains what is happening in Trump America and the rest of the world.

@gamestransformed.bsky.social I'm very interested in both the Festival and the Pre-festival conference. Is it too late to register interest for the former?

"The deals that utility companies make with the data centers will likely transfer the costs of the AI revolution to the rest of us, in the form of higher electricity bills." www.technologyreview.com/2025/05/20/1...

"Activists" who imagine that we don't notice that their "opinions" are generated by AI are now getting almost as worrying as fascists whose opinions aren't.

By a process of elimination… Wordle 1,429 4/6* ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟩⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟩⬛⬛⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

"When politicians pit “the people” against migrants, or against democratic institutions themselves, it creates a hollow version of democracy – one stripped of pluralism, of compassion, of truth"

Whether of not Keir Starmer means the implications of "Island of Strangers" or not, the logic, "Because 30% of the UK population are complete pricks who want to vote for a complete prick, so therefore I should come across as a complete prick" is flawed. Do better! Be better!

It's hard to adequately describe how scary it is to watch mainstream political journalists barely push back against a sitting U.S. president accepting a $400M plane from a foreign government that would literally be designated as an emergency command-and-control center during a nuclear war.

Wordle 1,421 1/6* 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 😁 This is the second time this has happened for me! Literally the only skill I applied was to change word after my first random hit. Now I suppose I'd better change to another word, to give myself a chance at a third. How inconvenient!

I love everything about Rachel Maddow. She’s a gay woman and a fighter. Rachel Maddow believes in democracy. She genuinely cares about children and humanity. She’s fearless, intelligent, relatable, and honest. WATCH: #Resist

Wordle 1,420 6/6* ⬛🟨⬛⬛🟨 🟨⬛⬛🟨🟩 🟩🟩🟩⬛🟩 🟩🟩🟩⬛🟩 🟩🟩🟩⬛🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Phew indeed! I can see at least one more possibility (although it is obscure!).

"Contemporary far-right movements lack any credible vision for a hopeful future. The average voter is offered only remixes of a bygone past, alongside the sadistic pleasures of dominance over an ever-expanding assemblage of dehumanized others." www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Wordle 1,417 2/6* ⬛🟨⬛🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 I was particularly lucky here! My favoured method(*) made the answer inevitable—it was good fortune that the order in which I tend to try keys coincided with the nature of the lock. (* Which I'll resist revealing now—spoilers!)

Fake images of real people, real images of fake people; fake stories about real things, real stories about fake things. "Fake words creeping like kudzu into scientific papers and dating profiles and e-mails and text messages and news outlets and social feeds and job listings and job applications."

If you covered 0.4% of the UK's farmland in Solar Panels you would have 100% Renewable Energy. The UK already imports more than 40% of its food. Solar Panels are not going to have ANY effect on food prices.

My tariff and inflation stickers arrived! I can’t wait to go from store to store and stick these on all the newly inflated prices!

If politicians say that the answers are simple, what they really think is simple is you.

The government has been busy making new laws. Lots of them. Across rail, education, planning, environment, housing... But most people have not noticed. So, here’s a very handy roundup of progress/changes, including a full list of those new laws and which ones have already had royal assent. 👇

Even a Micky Mouse operation is sophisticated in comparison. Russia doesn’t heed spies. Trump’s numpties are just giving it away.
