Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

Thanks to all of the NIHers and their friends who reached out to me. I am still here (DM me or Signal jeremymberg.78) I still have a very incomplete picture but based on what I have been told, the damage to NIH and to many wonderful people who work(ed) there is/was impossible for me to imagine 1/n

My lab studies how immune cells use the nutrients to effectively combat diseases. We proudly collaborate with a large group of clinicians and other researchers to advance therapies to treat *metastatic prostate cancer*. A terrible disease that kill thousands of men every year. Help us help them!

More than ever, researchers need to explain how they use taxpayer money to provide tangible benefits. I'll start: My lab has developed a completely novel way to make cellular therapies a lot more effective. Our approach shows promising results in pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancer.
