Tbh lots of things about the nuclear bomb are unthinkable…

Slightly worried about what will happen to Bluesky while there are no tweets to complain about.

For officials in Europe or other US allied states: if you know of examples of the US government applying pressure on you to cut allied flows of aid or intelligence to Ukraine, whether on grounds of ITAR or end user licenses or other means, please get in touch with me.

1. On US cut-off in intelligence sharing. Seems partial rather than complete reporting - see Deborah Haynes of Sky reporting - but includes CIA so not just tactical intel. This is a highly consequential move that is more important than the arms pause. It will significantly weaken & blind Ukraine.

Hillbilly Enemy.

Over 500 British men and women died in Afghanistan and Iraq… Remind me who they were helping to defend.

Measles has the chance to do the funniest thing…

These are happening with great frequency…

I look forward to Americans learning how to spell “colour”.

America discovering the social contract…

This is the inevitable impact of the hollowing out over the last decade. Headline “capabilities” retained. Unglamorous essentials cut. Tory “investment”.

Thread, as they say.

Americans pronouncing English words, tbh.

Is this welcome? Yes. Is this adequate to the moment the UK finds itself in? Patently not. It’s a rounding error.

Boris being well known for posting back loans he’s received… shameless.

Who is telling those lies, Boris? Feel free to tell us.

The portrayal of Lend Lease as a “creative [way] to support its partners” rather than extracting a price for necessary aid sets the tone, tbh.

🔥 FT editorial: "Winston Churchill is credited with saying that America does the right thing after exhausting the alternatives. Donald Trump has turned that aphorism on its head. In the past 10 days, he has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership." www.ft.com/content/1511...

Well we’d be avoiding all *this*, so…

Excellent and rightly unsparing.

There isn’t published evidence that America has spent 350 billion. Official papers suggest around half of that, much of which was spent in America not Ukraine. Europe says it has spent more. Zelenskyy polls lower than he did two years ago but still high and higher than Trump in America.

Scholz continues to fail to rise to the moment. But, then, he only has a week left.

My mother was born in Bangladesh. My wife is Kazakh. Our son was born in Dubai. People with these antediluvian views can get in the sea.

Sensible, but will require a conscious decision to break with America / defy Trump that I suspect many European capitals aren’t ready to make. Second snd third order consequences potentially quite serious too (tho you can argue they’ll happen anyway eg US withdrawal from NATO).

The charitable reading of this is that Starmer still can’t bring himself to contemplate a decisive choice between Europe and the US and is hoping something turns up.

A great clip and an important point: the rule of law requires people to accept that there are limits, abc done they’ll win some they’ll lose. It breaks down when one side decides to remake the rules as a zero sum game.

Great, and thoughtful thread on what Trump II means for Europe.

Yes all those wonderful 20th C examples… Partition claimed between 200k and 2m lives. The ignorance and sane washing is unbelievable.

We’re happy to have New England back.

Well worth a read to try and get a handle on the motivations driving Musk / DOGE. And yes, it all sounds mad.

It me.

The clue is in the “ancient…British”. She thinks she’s Boudicca…

Wired is doing some fantastic journalism, rising to this moment.
