Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand) Results: Last week: 99.7% RE Last 186 weeks: 98.7% RE (1/5)

"After placing your favoured crossbench candidate first, continue by preferencing all Crossbench candidates ahead of the ALP, with the LNP last. In 2022, this would have yielded 40+ Crossbench MPs." johnmenadue.com/to-recover-a...

NEW DATA: China's wind+solar overtakes thermal capacity🙌 39GW of solar added in Jan-Feb - a million solar panels per day🤯+ 9GW of wind Thermal generation still dwarfs wind+solar, but new wind+solar (+nuclear+hydro) is broadly meeting elec demand growth, halting further rises

THREAD: How the Sun screwed up its "smoking gun" story on net-zero study The Sun: "As much as 10% wld be wiped off economic growth by end of decade" Source: "At no point does this study suggest there will be a drop in UK GDP. It talks abt a 10% transfer…within GDP" Oops! 1/10

Many great graphs from "The cost of no renewables" report from the CEIG. These two show clearly that it is gas that has driven wholesale electricity prices higher, not renewables. 1/n

A typical photovoltaic module sold in 2024 was mono TOPCon with 22.7% efficiency, at a price below $0.10/W. A typical solar module sold in 2012 was multi AlBSF with efficiency of 15.4% and a price of about $0.87/W.

Apropos of Ms Ferguson's #4Corners report, be reminded that the first large for-profit child care chain in Australia was the now-defunct ABC Learning, started in Brisbane in 1988. It expanded rapidly thanks to increasing Howard government subsidies, partly supported by deals with Dutton...

Good morning with good news: Spain is pushing fossil fuel (FF) generation off its grid. FF peaked at 66% in 2006 & plunged to 23% in 2024! FF was 41% in 2019, 37% in 2022 and 28% in 2023. Spanish decarbonization is mostly wind & solar. They skyrocketed from 7% in 2006 to 43 % in 2024! #energysky

Yet another reason we are so glad we drive a BYD Atto. Bloody marvellous. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Told you so...

OUT TODAY: How is the US electricity transition doing? WIND+SOLAR OVER TOOK COAL: Wind and solar now at 17% of US electricity supply; coal falls to a record low of 15%. Only 6 years ago in 2018, coal generation was x3 that of wind and solar🤯

The US exports twice as much to us as we do to them. Time for some retaliatory tariffs. First up: American cars. Our streets could benefit from fewer shit-house stupidly large 'pickup trucks' that don’t fit in standard car parks.
